Its a Minolta camera and out of production. Check the Sony web page for a comparable camera since the Sony Alpha is really a Minolta MAXXUM.

im not that familiar with dimage but i do know about the 6mp. 6mp is plenty on a camera i used to work in a store that sold cameras and if it is just for general use, (i.e. taking pictures with friends and when on vacation) it is plenty, anything over 5 really is just overkill. in terms of the price it will vary. Most digital cameras nowadays are somewhere between 5 and 8.1 mp and ive seen 5.0 mp that are 250 dollars and 8.1 that are 180 it really depends on the features that it comes with. panoramic, how it deals with certain lights, movie modes, if it has audio with that. just a whole bunch of different scene options and that is what you are really paying for. So make sure it has the functions you want or dont want and pay for that not because of the mp. most will have 6

I dont know the brand but Canon and Nikkon make a camera in that range that are very good. You can pick them up at Best Buy that are about 7 MP for about $250. The cards that go with these will run you about $50 per each GB. These cameras make great pictures and are small and compact.

My answer to you is stick to the tried and true name brands. Such as Canon, Sony, Fuji, Panasonic, Nikon and Olympus.
PS prices can be all over the map depending on features. All 6 megapixels are not the same price.
