Most people in the West don't even understand the concept of "ego eradication." The "I" is not thought of as a hindrance or an illusion, as it is in Buddhism. At best, you get the Christian mystics talking about "Union with God," which of course implies the destruction of the Ego, although they never use those terms.

I certainly wouldn't want to eradicate my ego, otherwise it would render my relationship with God meaningless, as I would not exist as an individual ("ego" is Latin for "I am") and is not necessarily a bad thing, but a vital component of the thinking human being.

Secondly, people "self-correct" all the time, whether it's loosing weight, taking a course, managing anger. I suspect you mean denying oneself one's urges, which, ironically is why we have an ego, to make certain that we don't engage in socially inappropriate behaviors.

I'm waiting for Christians in the USA to become self-flagellants and/or to wear hair shirts as yet another way to celebrate their vulgarity, although as an American, my suspicion is, that the vast majority wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about.

P.S.: no one fully eradicates their ego, unless, of course, they render themselves unconscious.
