The story goes like this, Jesus is doodling in the sand and a crowd wants his okay to stone a woman who has committed adultry, she is waiting and surrounded by the crowd, when Jesus stands up and says (HE) who is without sin may cast the first stone. Now I know that all religions and there writing's are male, and woman take a backseat and are considered objects in most religions. If woman ever wrote for a religion I'm sure there would be a chapter on castration, but alas they are subjugated by religions whether they want to believe it or not. In my oppinion the husband in the story is in the back of the crowd handing out rocks. Your oppinion please:

Yes, it is very apparent that women are debased by many religions and only recently have some of those same religions started to change that (probably to add followers). Anyways, I'm guessing you know that this particular story about Jesus may or may not be true. For historical purposes this women may not have even existed... but my guess is if she did exist then her husband may very well have been there armed and ready. I'd bet there's a lot of people who would like to be allowed to still do this today when they are cheated on... so why not back then, right?

when Jesus was doodling in the sand as you say He was writing in Hebrew all of the sins of the people that were in the crowd. There were murderers, liars, thieves, and others.

Where would you be had that been your wife? I think that there could be more than one answer besides "he was in the crowd." Maybe he was tending to chickens and cows, or at home, or even looking for his wife. Much sympathy to the husband because of his fallen wife, but I think we should take into deep consideration the lessons taught by Jesus about the crowd and the woman that we should not point fingers and mock and judge because we are all sinners. Secondly, Jesus can forgive any sin....even adulterers. Third, so why can't we?

Who am I to judge when I walk imperfectly? Hate the sin- not the sinner!

He may have been in the back with the rocks, but when Jesus finished the story no one threw the rocks because they understood that none of them were without sin. The woman was simply being used as a trap for Jesus. Her husband may not even have known yet that she was there. The Bible does not say who caught her.

lol. Interesting question. The Bible itself doesn't mention where he is, so we can only guess. I would think that he would be in the crowd somewhere, because where else would he be?
I wonder if they had a sort of protocol for that kind of thing, a tradition that they would follow, or if it was just like a mad crowd dragging the woman out into the street.
I'll have to try to research how they dealt with such things back then...if there was a sort of "protocol".

You assume that the woman was married, she very easily could have been a single woman or widowed and had sex with a married man. The Biblical law was rather one sided in favor of the male. You also notice that the male part of the adulterous pair was not mentioned...

Now that you mention it, the lack of either/both males in this story makes it less creditable.

She may not have had a husband. The better question is where was the guy she was caught in adultery with? Shouldn't he have been stoned too? He was probably the one passing out rocks.

I agree, the husband was there, wanting his wife executed.

And this is a perfect example of Jesus changing the Mosaic law, despite some misinterpretations of Jesus claiming he didn't come to change the law . . . here's an obvious example of him doing just that.

When Jesus talked about fulfilling the law, he was talking about the prophesies.

Sadducee's didn't acknowledge the prophets, so they didn't believe the messiah was coming.

Jesus was probably an Essene, who cared less about the Mosaic laws -- like stoning.

Godspeed.

You know what? I just reread this the other night, and that point simply passed me by. Guess I was thinking of the parable itself; none are without sin. But Cee is probably right; she probably wasn't married and fooling around with a married man. But where was he?! There have been accounts in modern day law where a muslim girl was raped and they stoned HER to death! Why? Hubby heard it on 'God's Warriors'; I missed that part. Horrible, huh? Good question!

The message was not about the husband and therefore it wasn't written. It was about whoever is here without sin cast the first stone.... and I believe Jesus wrote their sins out in the sand... possibly, like you had Alice, and you Jessie, and you had Beth etc....

Point is not ONE of us is without SIN. Not ONE of us is GOOD.
