I have chronic pain in my hip/butt area. I am on prescription pain medicine. I can take up to 3 a day. (Ive done therapy, MRI's, everything they've asked me to do and see my doctor fairly regularly)
But 2 weeks ago I dislocated my knee. It hurts soooo bad. But they havent given me any more pain medicine than what I already get every month. I dont know if I should try and call the doctor and talk to her about this. Im scared to bring it up because I dont want them to try and change my medicine all together, because the medicine I have DOES work for the butt/hip issue. Just that the knee is more constant and 3 a day leaves gaps where its still working for my hips/ butt but the knee pain gets through. I hope that makes sense, its the best I can describe it. Thats another reason Im afraid to call the doctor because look how slaughtered Ive worded it on here. I dont wanna be misunderstood.

I have a immobilizer brace but she told me to wear it as little as possible or my leg would get stiff. Also, I think going to a new doctor would be even worse because then they would think I am trying to "doctor shop"

Ask your pain doctor about medication for breakthrough pain, at least temporarily, for the knee issue. DO NOT try going to another doctor. Tell her exactly what you've said here. Many pain patinet get breakthrough pain and have meds for it (myself included).

Try to use natural medicines instead of these artificial ones. Natural products are very helpful.

is your knee immobilized? If it's in a cast that should help reduce the pain. If it's not I can understand why you're having so much pain and I would recommend you see another doctor. I also clearly understand why you don't want to call your doctor. doctors are skittish about pain medication and you never know what's going to cause them to pull the plug.

Take 500mg of calcium and magnesium twice daily, this can help take down the pain Considerably .

You're in a very difficult situation and unfortunately most doctors do not understand the difference between chronic pain and new Pain. So many people are labeled as psychotic because they are in chronic pain. If a medical doctor went through one week of what a chronic pain person experiences they would change their way of thinking.

Have you ever found out WHY you have this chronic pain? That might be key.
