I cannot help the fact that I believe there is no god.
I dearly wish that I could believe! But I can't.
If I go through the motions:
go to a place of worship regularly
tell people I believe
fulfill everything that the religion asks of me
then, If there it turns out there is a god, would I get to go to heaven?

If you do that, all that awaits you in the next life is fiery unending torture. Wait, I,m not serious. That concept is so absurd. Since just punishment means appropriate punishment, or a punishment that fits the crime. Why would our Creator punish anybody for being wrong for a finite period of time in this life with infinite punishment? That would not be justice. Some say it is. But you see it clearly is not when you study it, and look at definitions of words. When punishment goes beyond that which is just, it is torture. So God's justice is not portrayed correctly, to say the least, in mainstream religion. That's not to say that they are bad, I think God uses religion in spite of their false doctrine to do many good things.
So regarding your question. If you do that, when you do come to know God you will be very sorry that you acted like that. When you find out that he really is love. Check out this site, www.tentmaker.org .

Do you think you can fool God? God knows what is in your heart. God even knows what is hidden in your sub-conscious that you yourself do not know.
You have to be sincere and obedient to God, don't drink, stay away from illegal sex, don't lie and cheat and worship God sincerely to earn heaven. Repent to God for previous sins. God is most mercil and will forgive. That is the only way.

The other people will not know you do not believe but God will. And if you don't believe...why do you dearly wish you could? If there is no God...there is nothing to gain.

Only God knows your intentions and what is in your heart.
I cannot tell you if you will go to heaven or hell. That is between you and God.

Only you and the Lord know that answer.
If your spouse didn't really love you, but only went through the motion without the passion, and love, wouldn't you know?
