Laws of not killing have been around for several thousand years and WAY before the ten commandments came down from the mountain. Hell the epics of Gilgamesh were written 1500 before exodus even happened. I hear preaching about how the US school system is going to hell because they "took God out of school"
Why do people think ONLY thier faith has morals?

No Steve, I'm a college student who hasn't learned a damn thing. Would you like me to site sources? Believe it or not, the rest of the world goes by history OTHER then the Bible.
The ten Commandments is almost a spitting image of several "Moral Codes" much older then it is.

See Kenny it's completly ignorant comments like that that prove me point.
You have NO idea what my moral code it. And I'm NOT Christian. If society was truly "do what you will" then we would have anarchy. And you guys wonder why people bash you for your arrogance?

No taking God out of the school isn't what's hurting people. It's people expecting the schools to teach thier kids morals that is the issue. Why must God be in school? Because other religions don't have morals? Because I can't teach my kids morals?
The Greeks and Romans spilled no more blood then the Christians did after the Constatine Conversion.
Don't be a hypocrite, your arrogance only plays to the stereo type.

Boy do I understand your frustration!!!!

You said "I give up!" I have posted many questions like this one before and I always got a bunch of boneheads answering me with scripture quotes and threats of hell and a lot of other nonsense that didn't even address the question.

It got to be so frustrating for me, so I more or less did give up on trying to convince them to use their brains and THINK for a change. I believe that thinking is not done bc the resulting logical conclusions would inevitably contradict their Christian dogma and "WE CAN'T HAVE ANYTHING THAT CONTRADICTS OUR BELIEFS, OTHERWISE WE MIGHT GO TO HELL" became the mindset.

So, save yourself aggravation and don't expect thinking or reasoning or logic when they would interfere with blind faith, which they generally do!

Prehistoric (meaning before the invention of writing) matriarchal and matrilineal societies were rarely violent. When men finally figured out how babies come, they began to create male-dominated religions to replace the ancient goddess religions. They conquered the peaceful societies and created their moral codes to put women in subjugation.

That little piece of anthropology said, currently, ego and mind control lead many religionists to consider their own personal brand of whatever to be THE "Truth." Everyone ELSE is wicked.

Ah, for the days when the "internet" was the griot, the medicine man or the minstrel.

I agree that the problem with school isn't that "god" isn't there, but that the parents aren't there!! Most parents, I've found, expect school to teach their kids everything!! What happened to those talks with your kids about the "birds and the bees"? No more, the government is supposed to do it through the school system. Parents aren't raising their kids anymore. They're letting the government do it and when the government comes up short, they all scream and holler - where's god, why isn't he in school?! Last time I checked, those kids are your kids, do something with 'em. Stop expecting/letting the government teach morals, ethics, personal issues - or haven't you heard, the government sucks at those things!!

Have you ever actually read any history? Whether or not laws were in place, people, not religions, killed each other at will.

The Romans, the Greeks, the Barbarians, etc were in a constant state of war, it was not if but when.

Christianity isn't perfect and surely Christianity does not have the "corner" on morals but even you should be able to see that taking God of schools has made them less then what they were.

Btw, 85 to 90% of this country are Christians that pay taxes, just like the the minority does, and so why does the minority get to decide what children are taught in our locally owned public schools.

Also, btw, public schools are not the "state" and never have been.

Why is it book smart people have a problem with the world in general?
This accusing Christians being too moral is so lopsided , I can't see how you don't trip over yourself.
Islamic followers , as they will attest , are not Christians, but they have a very moralistic religion, If you steal, they cut of your hand, If you commit adultery, as a woman you are stoned to death, If you are a different religious sect, they may behead you. So do not pompously sit in judgement of others, you are not in a position to know everything

I don't have the "corner market" on any morals, I just try to set the example of what I believe Christ wants me to be. I am no better then the next person and by no means do I have the morals of a saint. I'm just me to the best of my ability.
Sorry that you may have encountered some that have given you the perception of "Holier then Thou", but there are people out here (believers and non-believers) who do on to others as they want done on to them.

Christians need a way to appear as if their religion has made them superior. As can be clearly seen, god does not reward the religious with any more fortune than anyone else. So the way to justify the injustice in the world is to invent an afterlife where bad will be punished and good will be rewarded.

*Mankind invented the idea of a just and moral god because mankind is (in its better moods) moral. Not the other way around.

*the god of the bible is totally immoral... but the people in the prescientific agrarian cultures who invented him believed he was.

Gilgamesh, the ancient mythological superhuman king of Sumeria? The "earliest writings" were supposedly found in Babylon.

No one knows if they were scriblings of a mad man, a historical account, or an ancient pulp fiction writer. It cannot be ascertained the date of their origin either.

The real question is, where do people think that their morality came from? Do you think that we evolved to just believing that murder is wrong?
God created us to know right and wrong, just as he created us with a deep desire to love and be loved. It didn't just happen that way. We are created in His image-not just physical image but our characteristics, personality traits, and the ability to know right and wrong. God gave us the 10 commandments because he began to see Satan's influence over us, and his evil ability to confuse our minds to not see right and wrong. That is why we believe so strongly in the 10 commandments. Satan is so prevalent in this world, and his battlefield is our minds. To remind us of what we already know..God gave the 10 commandments.
By the way, Christians don't believe that we are superior- we believe that our God is superior. (and merciful and full of grace and love). He is the one who seperated light from dark, evil from righteous. So if you don't think that certain things are wrong- your arguement is with Him.

It was worth a try. Sometimes it's best to let the ignoramuses go their own way.

Christians also seem to be blind to the fact that it's their arrogance we hate most, not their beliefs. But of course their persecution complex won't let them understand that either.

But take heart, some of us do know better. If they remain stupid it's not because you never said anything.
