Despite the fact that they are getting ready to release previously withheld documents about the inquisition from the Vatican achives I doubt they ever will. Remeber the infallibility of the Pope even later Popes cannot contradict or apologize for what another Pope did when he uses that edict.

The Inquisition happened because people of other religions were pretending to be Catholic in order to corrupt the Church's teachings. They didn't just pull Jews out of the street or something. They were also asked to stop and they refused.

They might when they get a new pope. Sense the present one took the name of the guy who started the inquisition I doubt it will happen in his lifetime. And considering the stuff he has been saying I think he would reinstate it if he could.

2000 years , considering they could blame their mistake on interpretation. now evolution is harder to swallow , and that it has not been fully proven , although theres overwhelming evidence there and they cant blame the mistake on anything now
for one , we evolved from stupid to smarter. think of caveman and modern soldier.
nowadays human are also much bigger than few thousands years ago.
and to those shifting blames to the roman catholic church for their mistake , do note that their historical value are much stronger than other churchs and if you actually read the bible. it is said that their line can be tracked back to the apostle or semthing

Pardon me, but during Galileo's time there was only one Church, therefore using the word 'church' is correct. The various offshoots did their off shooting quite some time later.
