She was doing his work, she was dilligent and dutiful. If God could talk to one person to assuage and comfort it should have been her. I know his ways are not our ways, her reward is in heaven but....

If God can't recognize when his own are in desperate need of his loving word right here, right now, what good is he? If any anyone deserved to hear their Lords voice on this earth, it was Mother Teresa. He talks to you guys all the time, why not her?

Forgive me for assuming, but I thiught that everyone had heard about Mother Teresa's crisis in faith. She was longing to hear from her Lord but all she heard was silence. She wrote letters, it is well documented.

I just don't know why she couldn't get a burning bush or something.

He didn't speak to her because he doesn't exist, I know it is difficult to hear, but it is true.

God knows that he has Mother Theresa on his pocket, so he had no need to answer her.God never talks to me except through others, but I do have it on good evidence that god is frantically trying to talk to President Bush. Since Bush is apparently hard of hearing, god's been texting, but all he gets back from the Prez. are the words "terrorism" the letters "WMD" and the numbers "9/11". I wonder if this is some kind of code, or if that is the best the President can do. I suspect the latter.

For those who answered above by questioning how we know she didn't hear God's word - she said so. Her private papers and letters have just been published. She listened and did not hear. She asked and was not answered. She described her public statements as hypocricy.

My own answer, is why do you think she deserved to hear God's word above others? She took hundreds of millions in donations to help the sick and very, very little reached the deserving. Most was spent on spreading a religion she had serious doubts about.

If her religion is correct and she only needs belief to get to heaven, then there is no reason to expect her to be there.

It's hardly surprising the Catholic Church (still) intends to make her a saint.

I'm not really sure that she didn't hear God's voice. It may have not been audible, but how could someone with such an annointing not hear directly from God? Her relationship with the Lord, was probably a very personal one, so we can't assume that she didn't hear from God.

When devout religious people delve very deeply into their faith, there comes a point where they realize in their heart of hearts that god is just pretend. They see that there is no god guiding their way or communicating to them. This is called the dark night of the soul. They either go crazy or discover a new way to rationalize a belief in god.

I can't say I've read her biography, but what I recall is she heard God, saw God, touched God through the work she did with the poor and needy in Calcutta...

Not a bad way to experience Him actually...

Because God allows people - even saints like Teresa of Calcutta - to "work out their own salvation with fear and trembling". Mother Teresa went through her "dark night of the soul" as do many Illuminatives and Contemplatives (that's what 'contemplation' means - sometimes even the greats have doubts!)

I don't have time to explain the Purgative, Illuminative and Unitive Ways...but believe me, Teresa was steeped in them and knew her dark night was upon her.

God was simply making sure that Mother T. was becoming the person HE wanted her to be....and that means (for all of us) to "pick up your own cross...and follow Jesus...

She did that.

Sanctae Teresa, ora pro nobis!

I'm sorry. I'm not really an expert on Mother Theresa, but how do you know God didn't speak to her? Did she say "God didn't speak to me?"

I suspect that she was holy enough and astute enough to hear God speaking to her, so I'm at loss. Got any more details on what you are saying?

How do you know he did not?

God works through us all, he may not boom down a voice from heaven and rattle the windows, but that does not mean that he is not talking to us.

Peace be with you!

I'm sure God did talk to her; remember that she is as human as we are and sometimes humans can't understand God.
