Sometimes it seems like atheists think so.

They say we can't prove God. Well they don't have any scientific proof for evolution. That's why it's just a theory. They have faith that it's right.

It is just atheist propoganda that they try and push on our children in public schools.

Evolution is not a religion, but there is a lot of scientific evidence to support the theory. Where the is little or no evidence to support intelligent design except faith an a book that was written by man and edited by who knows how many hands before coming down to us. You can't teach faith in schools due to the fact that our country is becoming more religiously diverse every day. And there is no way to teach intelligent design with out referring to the bible or another Holy book, since it isn't based on fact just faith. Most don't have faith evolution is right but are faced with the statistics that while they may not conclusively prove that it is true, show signs that it is the most probable theory that is out there. Look at the human species alone and the increase in average birth weight and height over the last hundred or two hundred years these are both signs of human evolution.
As for it being taught in public schools, they are not a place for the religious indoctrination of our children if you have that big of an issue with your children being taught evolution, place them in a private Christian school as my parents did where they will only be taught intelligent design and the pseudo scientific theories involved. But I warn you that alone is likely to show them that evolution makes more sense.

When they say "Just a Theory" they are mixing casual english with scientific terminology.
In science a theory is an explanation of a known fact.
Science acknowleges evolution as a fact. The theories formulated are an attempt to define the mechanism of that fact.
Gravity is also "just a theory". However, I am not floating up in the air because Newton got it wrong.

Evolution also doesnt contradict Christianity. In fact, Darwin had a phD in Theology.
Most scientists end up coming to the conclusion that there is a God, and many come to the conclusion that Jesus is God. However, they don't see the conflict between science, which studies the mechanisms of Gods work, and religion, which studies the meaning of Gods work.
For some reason, a lot of Christians insist on creating psudo-sciences. This is just lazy. Its an attempt to get out of actually thinking about the Bible critically. If evolution happened, then you will have to figure out the meaning of the first chapter of Genesis.
If these Christian made half the effort they made in getting out of studying the bible into figuring out the real meaning of Genesis 1, then there wouldn't be a problem.

By the way Lazyiness is one of the seven deadly sins.

The definition of a "religion" is broader than just being anything to do with a theistic belief (believing in some mysterious invisible god-being) A religion is anything that you make the focus of your life, believe it is a path to be followed, and organize your life and behaviours around that particular thing. My personal "religion" for example is "good health" I absolutely believe that it is the key to having the best quality of life because it adds to your functioning abilities and your sense of happiness and fulfilment.

Evolution isn't a "religion" You don't get dressed up in robes and meet once a week to sing praises to Evolution, and build a whole lot of rituals and practises around it. It is just something that many people are convinced is the most logical, rational, and intelligent explanation about how all matter came into existence.

Atheists have just as much right to tell their children that this is what they believe, as "God-believers" have to teach their kids what they believe in. But I can tell you for darn sure what Atheists do NOT do. They don't send their kids to school telling them it's OK to start chanting and praying and making a personal display of their particular belief system in this very mixed public place.

Here's another thing. Atheists have never claimed to be able to prove the non-existence of God. Most of them are intelligent enough to know it's pretty darn difficult to prove the NON-existence of something, especially something that nobody has ever even seen from the beginnings of humanity. But since you believe God does exist, one would have thought you'd be able to come up with some proof of that.

Nobody denies that Evolution is a theory. But EVERYTHING that man has ever learned was a theory first before it was ever demonstrated by clear, unarguable, incontrovertible, indisputable, irrefutable PROOF. Evolution is part of science, and science has always been a journey of discovery, and the search for that kind of proof. Religion on the other hand, demands "faith"...... which is belief in something even in the absence of proof, and which religionists take one step further, and, regardless of lack of proof INSIST that God is fact. You may believe something with all the sincerity and passion in the world, but it doesn't amount to a lick o'proof. Evolutionists know this which is why they don't go around telling people it has absolutely been proven. They just say that they believe it makes the most sense, and that the search for the ultimate evidence continues.

According to dictionary.com religion is:

1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

I don't think that has a whole lot to do with evolution.

Remember - church and state should not be mixed. A SCIENTIFIC THEORY is part of education. The bible - the Quaran or any holy book - is part of RELIGION.

I think that people who don't want evolution taught to their kids (because their holy book teaches differently) - and want their kids to learn about Jesus or Buddha or Allah or any of that - should send their children to PRIVATE religious schools. Our public schools are for everyone - and again - there should be no mixture of church and state.

No. And no, we don't.

You cannot "prove" a god's existence. No one can.

There is a vast amount of evidence in support of evolutionary theory. You don't understand the definition of the word "theory" as it is used in the sciences. Look it up, and you will realize how silly this question is at its foundation.

It's not propaganda. The vast majority of the educated world--and that includes theists in lots of countries, even Christians (even the Pope!)--realizes that the theory of evolution is very well-supported. Seriously, you would do well to take a few classes and actually understand what it is that you are criticizing. Ignorance is unbecoming.

"Is evolution a religion?

Sometimes it seems like atheists think so."

No.

"They say we can't prove God."

Which is true.

"Well they don't have any scientific proof for evolution."

(Evolution is completely unrelated to atheism)

This is a lie. Here are 29+ evidences for evolution (note: one needs to be educated more than the average creationist to be able to fully grasp all of it--this is real science, after all):

http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/comdesc/

"That's why it's just a theory."

http://www.notjustatheory.com/

A common creationist mistake. "Just a theory" implies a gross misunderstanding of what "theory" means in a scientific context. You know what else is "just a theory?" Gravity. Magnetism. Cells. Atoms. Etc.

"They have faith that it's right."

Evolution is accepted on its merits, and it's truly got a ton of them--millions and millions of pieces of evidence. No faith is needed to know that things evolve. Even recently: there are species of bacteria (separate species, mind you--they cannot interbreed with other bacteria) that have evolved to live off nylon, a synthetic substance that didn't even exist until 1939!

No it's science.

Do you have any evidence to support your theory that there is a god? How about any evidence that supports the bible, other than locations?

A theory is not always unproved nor does it lack evidence. Evolution has an overwhelming amount of evidence backing it and nothing to no evidence for any alternatives.

You should actually understand, maybe not believe, what you're protesting before you do. "The fool opens his mouth and removes all doubt [that he is a fool]".

No. The only temples to evolution are those (e.g. the "Creation Museum") fundies build to discredit it.

"That's why it's just a theory"

Yep. "Only". You might want to learn what "theory" is all about in the scientific world since you, clearly, haven't a clue wha it means. Do you not believe in gravity because it is "only" a theory?

I think God's elect just found out the truth.
We have been so busy making up fossils and burying them impossibly deep, inventing radioactivity and making up the subtle rules of radioactive decay, then pretending time can be measured so we could "date" those "fossils".
We have been guilty of using our eyes to witness micro-evolution.
We have claimed that species that disappeared and appeared over the ages were doing so for natural reasons instead of God's will.
We have deluded ourselves into thinking that obvious patterns of migration and evolution in animal species have not been planted by the Devil to test our faith.
We cling to the false hope that progress in the medical field that is related to "evolution" is not the result of blind luck.
And of course, we thought that God's Elect would not find out the truth about our one and true master, Lucifer.

Haw!Haw!Haw! You can't stop us!
We teach evolution to children for the sole purpose of condemning them to an eternity in hell!

or not.

Evolution is a theory with some supporting physical evidence. Some people treat it as a relilgion, as they "believe", regardless of the acute lack of physical evidence. Just like there is physical evidence that many of the places described in the Bible exist - some still do.

Both sides use "propaganda" to support their 'beliefs' - with current knowledge, neither side can deliver a 'knock punch'.
