I have tried Comet, Currys and Argos.
I need one with a really good sound to play a backing CD when I sing on Sunday. I have only just found out that the place I am singing does not have it's own sound system.

Are you looking for maybe a portable PA system with Cd player?
See below for an idea you will need to add a CD player or Mp3 player to the mix as well.
You could also look at karaoke systems as well, But I don't like most that are available.
But I am not sure you are going to find exactly what you want unless you get something with more capability for later.

You are not going to find a portable with a genuine 80 watt output.
No matter what power output they may CLAIM to have, 99% of portables only produce around 15-20 watts in the real world.

Try Circuit city, Best Buy, or MicroCenter. Might even try Radio Shack.
You may need to get a seperate amp and speakers to set up to get the power required.
