I recently had fish that someone told me was salmon. I was confused though because it wasn't pink. Could this have really been salmon?

I ama former chef from Canada and yes like one respondant has said there is a white fleshed salmon, I served King Salmon when I worked in B.C. Canada, it is firmer than the sockeye, cohoe and pink salmon most are used to, like atlantic salmon, King salmon is a big fattier in texture as it is fished in the cooler pacific waters of the Queen Charlotte Islands of B.C and southern Alaska.

It has a richer taste not unlike a halibut or sable fish, flakey and is best either poached or baked, some will grill it, but I feel that takes away from the flavour.

You also get red salmon, which is actually a much deeper shade and also some light colours.
