...but the scriptures of the Old Testament had been written and taught for centuries before Timothy lived and he, as a Jew, was well aware of the contents of these scriptures.

In the next verse, Paul explains his reference to the OT saying that those scriptures were useful for "teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness".

If those scriptures were "God-breathed" (Paul's words in 2 Timothy) and supported with other similar references throughout the bible, then it makes complete sense that Jesus wouldn't want one dot or letter changed until they are fulfilled. What's your point?

Were you trying to suggest that Christians who believe the OT scriptures (the "law") aren't relevant because of Jesus are deceived or flat out wrong? If so, then I agree with you 100%. Jesus doesn't relieve any of us from the responsibility for obeying God; in fact, Jesus made it clear on numerous occasions that his followers are supposed to seek to be like God. The OT scriptures provide explicit instructions from God for achieving that objective and thus are an essential resource for any Christian that wants to follow Jesus' instructions!

It is the Old Testament. They preached strictly out of it and showed through the prophecies(of which there are hundreds) that this Jesus was whom they were refering to.I doubt very much if Paul and others ever saw any of the Gospels or other epistles, although Peter does say he studied Paul.
As to your other question about the Law. When Jesus died on the Cross the law was fulfilled. The canon of scriture was complete within 50 years of John's dath. The early church fathers quote from them extensively right at the turn of the century(AD 200) Papias and others. They did not wait 1300 years until a printing press came along.
