Remember the old adage, if something seems too good to be true, it probably isn't. That is, not that good or not true.

The primary tactic is to get you involved by being cheerful, friendly and offering something like a lecture or a luncheon for free, no obligation. But these are people who have studied brainwashing techniques, and have learned how to hypnotize an audience into being susceptible. So if you go to a free lecture or whatever, keep your BS filters on high gain: doubt everything you hear.

And don't believe some guy who wants to bring you in because he thinks you're pretty, acts like he wants to date you. He's learned he can get away with it, and uses this technique on many girls, including ones that are decidedly not pretty, because they have fragile egos that respond to petting.

Trust your own good judgment rather than someone you have only just met. Recognize that everyone has a reason for what they do, and generosity without strings attached is generally only for the most poor and raggedy. People can't afford to feed and house everyone, so if you are not wretched, you can't expect that someone who offers you something for free has no ulterior motives.

Some of the best defence is having a broad understanding of most cults or you could say spiritual churches.
Have an understanding of yourself and believe in who you are and that yes you believe in a power but one church whether its religious or "cult" can not have all of the answers to life's problems.
Arm yourself with knowledge and also listen and learn from people but always remove yourself and ask yourself three simple questions.
1. Do they want you to become separate to your friends and family/community?
2. Do they claim that they are the only way?
3. Do they encourage you to go against what you feel inside is wrong?
I believe if you tick all three move on straight away and use this as a guide when whoever uses mind games to control you with fear of rejection etc .
Take care.

The simplest way to stay away from cults is to learn have the ability to think for yourself and the ability to be independent. Cults prey on weak minded, easily fooled individuals who feel the need to be accepted and be part of a group.

The tactics are using FEAR to brainwash you, just like the Christians and Muslims do scaring you to think that God will send you to burn ,tortured in hell forever.
Those two are two evil cults, relying on fear to recruit people.
Stay away from those lies.

"To thine own self be true." You are your own priest/ess, pastor, spiritual leader, etc. Question EVERYthing, particularly those who claim they have "The True Answer."

When in a potential 'recruitment" scenario , if you are finding yourself feeling the least bit guilty: Run Away, run away !

Other red flags - anything having to do with money and 'donations' - - anything having to do with sexual favours - - anything having to do with swearing allegiance to ANYthing or anybody - - - being told your family and loved ones are "holding you back" from your (supposed) 'highest good'...

(Isolation is a key tactic. Be very wary of invites ).

Good luck to you ! *bless* SJ
