i have a HP Deskjet F380. What step do I need to do to copy a sheet placed under the lid, or scan a sheet placed under the hood? I need step by step and i do not have an owners manual. as far as scanning, if ms word is open on my desktop, will it go right to ms word?

To copy, it's easy. Place your original face-down on the glass, aligned with the lower left corner, then press either of the Start Copy buttons (the one beside the black spot for a black & white copy, the one beside the color spot for a color copy. The computer doesn't even have to be turned on to do this.

To scan, you need the HP Photosmart software installed (you can download it from HP at the link below). Start HP Photosmart, then put your original in the scanner and press the "Scan" button. You can scan multiple sheets, when you're done, click "done" and the files will be saved as JPEGs in the My Scans folder in My Documents.

Unless you have some OCR software (Optical Character Recognition), the scans you get will be just images. (My F380 came with IRIS OCR software, but I've never used it.)

Anyway, software and manuals are available from HP at the links below.
