I did an interview last Thursday and had to sign papers to get a criminal background check done (I already know this will be clean anyway so no worries there). Someone I know had their interview the same day as me and already got their call yesterday to come in for another interview this Thursday. I called this morning and they are still waiting on my background check and one of my references.
I already know they haven't phoned my second reference, I don't know why not...my reference told me this morning that she'd tell me if/when they'd phone and they haven't yet.

What factors make a background check slower than another if they're handed in the same day (we both had our interviews Thursday afternoon)?

oh and by the way, this is Wal-mart, if that makes any difference! Thanks.

Woohoo, they phoned my second reference this afternoon (Wednesday). I guess we're still waiting on the background check. Ugh, hurry your butt up!

if you're saying that they DID phone your FIRST reference, then you are just waiting in line and eventually they will call you, if / when they have the need. That is, you've passed the ok point to be hired by walmanrt, now they just need to verify, which takes time, sometimes. And for many reasons, good and bad. not to worry. they wouldn't even bother calling your first reference if they tossed your application in the "not to pursue" pile. and all interviewes have that pile.

Factors may include the interview itself. The person you knew probably had far more experience and an excellent interview and the employer knew just that he/she had top priority. On the other hand, you may be in the waiting list with the other applicants who signed up the same position as you and therefore it would take time for the employer to go through everybody.

Good luck with your job :)

Sometimes background checks take longer depending on last names, and where you need them from...were you and the other person from the same place always, if you moved around and they have more to check, then it will take longer.
And I hate to say it, maybe she made a better impression or something that they got her references all completed already. The other thing is maybe your one ref. gave you such a good one they are not going to get a second.
Good luck.

depends if you went for the same job, their info might have been easier to verify, if they are waiting on one of your references that will cause a delay.. you might have gotten a bad reference, they might not have wanted you for the job (background checks are expensive). There are many reasons why it can take a long time. alot of times it can be as simple as a number recorded incorrectly or an old bill you forgot you had, thats all.

Maybe if you have lived in alot of places they have to check more than that other person. Other than that, I don't know, they probably just forgot to submit it till the last minute or something lol. I wouldn't worry, if it's clean then you will get the job, no matter how long it takes.

Maybe some of your references or previous employers/schools have not returned phone calls., or perhaps your someone had less to verify than you did.
