It does not look like you are getting anything from someone with recent experience.

When I joined in 1973 I was also on a delayed program. For that I only signed an agreement.

We signed the contract and and swore in just before boarding the bus for Ft. Ord.

You can ask again tonite and probably get a better response from someone younger than me.

Well, when I tried to join the USAF, I was roomed up with someone leaving for the Army. I was "sworn in" in a room full of Dep'ers, while the other that were leaving the next morning for boot camp was sworn in seperately. The military knows that those who DEP have a much higher chance of just getting out way before their leave date. Three days after I was at MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) I broke my ankle playing Varsity Volleyball. MIlitary was a no-go for me, (I had to get pins)
So I think twice. First is a scare-tactic to make you feel like you HAVE to go, and the second is the real deal. I think you're sworn in at Basic as well. (My boyfriend is in the Army) :)
Hope this helps.

ok some of these are partially true check it out. whatever mos "military occupational specialty" aka job you sign up for after basic you go to AIT "advanced individual training" school. now alot of combat arms mos's ait is just an extension from basic but you have to think the army doesnt just sign you up and you go to basic yourself. what happens is there are cycles basic cycles and ait cycles now in ait a new class meaning fresh from basic can start every week where as basic is obviously every 9 technically 10 if you count inprocessing. so when you join depending on your mos you will luck out and jump on in a cycle that coincides with your ait dates but alot of people are put on the DEP for that reason also cause think about it. would the army rather start paying you and have you held over and waiting for nothing or just have you sign an initial contract then a few days weeks months or whatever later have you sign the real deal and start paying you then so it all depends on your mos. but i guess to answer the question more simply. usually with no complications as quick as theyd like from same day to maybe a few. even if you want to wait but still sign up to kinda keep pushin so you dont back out get on the DEP so that way you not leaving yet but you still have an obligation. hope this helps good luck. Well, it depends. If someone enters the DEP program (delayed entry), it can be kind of open. Lots of high school seniors do this, then they leave after they graduate. Other than that, it can depend on when the next opening is for your training. My husband joined the DEP program, and was told that the first opening that they had for 11B was going to be in May. They then told us that he could go in March if he wanted to. In some cases, a person can leave within a week of signing. I hope this helps!
