Because apparently Original Sin™ is responsible for all things perceived as bad. Age, illness, mosquitos, natural disasters, God sure knows how to hold a grudge and act it out.

I had never heard of labor being punishment of sin. what I have been told is it is the reminder of the childs first day in your care. It shows the strength woman do have when we have carried a child for 9 months the have gone through that wonderful but painful time of giving birth to the man (who is now a father) child. My first I had the epideral so that I would feel no pain. When I got pregnant with my second I did not. The reason was I only wanted two children and wanted to know what true birth felt know matter how painful. If it is a sin then why did God allow someone to create the epideral so we could now go through no pain?

According to Carl Sagan, the 'pain of labor' is a result of falling from the garden of eden (ignorance) in this light.
Humans have the most painful childbirths because the size of the infants head is so large. Therefore, painful labor is not punishment women have to endure for the original sin, it's the cost humanity pays for superior intelligence and massive brain size. It's cause and effect, nothing more.
To me, this line of reasoning validates both science AND the bible.

Great question, UFO! You're right...animals definitely DO have labor pains. The actual punishment given Eve was that her labor pains would be "greatly increased." And "increased" they sure ARE! I'm sorry I can't give you the actual scripture, but I know you'll be able to find it yourself easily in those early Genesis chapters. I think chapter 3. Take care! =)

Labor pains were not a punishment for sin. Actually labor pains already existed. What Eve was told after she sinned is recorded at Genesis 3:16 - "To the woman he said: 'I shall greatly INCREASE the pain of your pregnancy."

They have nowhere near as much labour pain as humans. The human brain keeps getting bigger and its harder and harder to pass the head. Some animals can just pop them out, with not much more trouble than a poo. It's because we are evolving greater intelligence that giving birth is difficult. There's a limit to how wide a woman can get lol!
Think of it this way; the fruit of the tree of knowledge gave man knowledge, an understanding to rival that of God and to question God. This can represent the process of evolution towards a larger brain relative to body size. And women suffer during childbirth as a consequence!
I guess evolution will just make this worse as fewer women die in childbirth these days so there's no such evolutionary push to make a woman biologically fitter to expel her baby.

I don't know the last anesthesiologist that gave an ape an epidural during birth.
Giving birth is the most excruciating pain you can imagine. I don't know if you have experienced this miracle or not. My son was born 21 minutes after arriving at the hospital, so needless to say there was no time for any type of pain killer. However, how painful this experience was, God gave me the ability to forget the pain as soon as I held my son in my arms. I would gladly do this 100 times over for the joy that I experience as a parent.

It is more of a physical attribute. When you stretch something that normally only handles about a max of a two-inch diameter, and stretch it out to 6 or 8 inches, something's gonna give. It has nothing to do with sin, unless you are not married.
I have never heard of cows, cats, lions, or other critters getting married, so they must all live in sin.

Because that was a myth made up to explain labor pains.
Another lifeform is tearing it's way out of you- through a hole that's normally no more than a half-inch in diameter... that's why we have labor pains. Not because some chick ate the wrong apple...

Very good question. I don't think labor pains are a punishment. Do Christians think that? lol

That's pretty simple.
That means if there was no punishment women would never have labor pains. They won't have the same suffering as the animals.
