Would anyone be more inclined to believe it if he had actually penned it?

He was just a bit busy doing things for mankind and individuals that thronged around Him as he traveled - others wrote down what they saw and heard while He was here with us. John, the youngest apostle, wrote his gospel decades after Jesus was crucified and resurrected. Much of the early Christian church was verbal - so, thankfully, God inspired those who had been with Jesus during His life on earth to write the account so that we would have it forever.

No earthly king records his own history - all kingly accounts - divine or earthly - were written by others. Maybe it helps to keep the egos ( kingly spin ) out of the manuscripts. The only one I have ever heard writing his own account was Mohamed (I think) - I really don't know the history of the Koran, so I apologize if this statement is in error.

I would only add that many autobiographical accounts have been written by many people, and still many people do not believe them. I wonder why you think it would be any different if Jesus had done his own writing. Don't you think His writings would have been destroyed at the same time that He was crucified?

I hope that you find this answer as thoughtful as I found your question. Jesus can stand up to all questions - it is, sometimes, us who can't accept the answers.

God bless.

How would writings in Jesus' own hand make his story more believable? If a criminal professes his innocence in court, is that truly more "believable" than eyewitness testimony? It certainly isn't in a court of law nor in the minds of most humans.

If people can't accept the eyewitness testimony of four separate witnesses who all tell a remarkably similar story, how would reading something written by Jesus himself change their mind? If people can't accept the testimony of people who have practiced his teachings and found them to be true, how could the opportunity to read about his teachings in an ancient document change their perspective?

In fact, I would suggest that religions/beliefs founded on the teaching and writing of a single person are FAR less believable than those based on independent writings of multiple witnesses. If Jesus had written his own gospel, his followers would have founded their entire religion on those writings...they wouldn't have been motivated to write down their own testimony. Instead, by relying on people who knew him to write what he taught, Jesus ensured that his story couldn't be dismissed as the ramblings of a single insane person...that to dismiss his message, we would be forced to dismiss a whole group of eyewitnesses as liars or fools.

He lived the Gospel! It was only documented by others. It's called the New Testatment.

Peace be with you

Why do cooperate businessmen have there Secretaries take notes for them? Because there busy doing other things that at the time need more attention. They don't have the time to get a piece of paper, sit down, and write out a long message. That's what they hire the Secretary to do.The secretaries also get paid to make sure theres no mistakes. Maybe you should invest in one.

Because Jesus knew that everything about Him was already written in the Old Testament - "And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself." (Luke 24:27)

All that the Gospel writers did was to confirm it.

I've often wondered why he never picked up a pen and at least wrote an 'x'.
But the early church leaders woulda burned it cos they had their own theory about the religion they wanted to create mostly based on god-men like Horus and Mithras who'd come before.

Back then when Jesus walked this earth and done miracles people still didnt believe. Even in the bible we have words of Jesus in Red and people still don't believe in that. Many will not believe till they are bowed down before him begging for mercy, but there will be no mercy, for it is to late.

LOL. He did not come here to write the Gospels. He did what He came to do. And His Word is believable when you let the Holy Spirit help you.

Excellent question. But I wonder if it would be more believable, since it would have come before the crucifixion. Or perhaps, if he really did resurrect, he could hold a pen and write it then. Personally, I think he was resurrected because he was not fully dead when they took him down from the cross.
