Hello,

I just got a new puppy last weekend and she is from the humane society. She is a very sweet dog and is definitely not dominant. Yesterday, she broke out of her enclosed room (dont ask how) learned how to climb up stairs, jumped up on my bed and urinated on my pillow, and just the one I sleep on... Ive heard of submissive urination, but Im afraid this is not that. What are your thoughts? was this a freak accident, or her trying to tell me something? I had left her alone to go to work for a few hours btw. I figured it might be separation anxiety or something, but where is the logic in that?

indeed, it may be separation anxiety. She escaped from one room and went to the place you sleep, found something that has your scent, and urinated (because of anxiety). You may want to try some techniques dealing with separation anxiety, or get professional help. IF this is separation anxiety, punishment will make it worse. Good luck.

She's a puppy. Unless she's housebroken, there's probably not a lot of logic involved. She had to pee, she was there, she went. Buy a new pillow, and be happy she didn't hit the mattress. Those are a lot more expensive to replace.

She was mad. And yes separation anxiety does play a role. She is still unsure of her surroundings and still scared. Her only safe haven is in you and when you leave she got mad and scared...I suggest that you crate her with some food water, toys and a security blanket that has your scent on it.

Good luck

If it happens only once it is just an accident. Make sure that it will not happen again and wash your pillow and its cover with bleach to erase the smell for her.

i could have very well been separation anxiety. have you thought of possibly crate training her so she cant have free roam of the house?
