If you are waiting for people to send you those dinky little cards that you so thoughtfully stamped and addressed for them, you might wait forever. (And if you haven't bought the tacky little things yet, don't bother. Addressing and stamping them is more work and money that it's worth, and don't let the "helpful" printer tell you otherwise.)

As to the rsvp DATA (rather than the silly little card), you need to have finalized your guest list by 4 weeks prior to the event. CALL people. It is not putting them on the spot, rather it is they who have put YOU on the spot (with your caterer) via their own social errors.

Do not create "maybe list" for those who fear commitment. All "not sure yet" responses should be consigned to the "no" basket after your October 14 (or thereabout) deadline. Make sure to call these people and tell them how sorry you are they can't come, lest they show up claiming they didn't know they weren't expected.

This sounds like of extra phone calling for you and your deputies, but that is nothing compared with the nightmare of an out-of-control guest list. Also, these calls give people an opportunity to ask what sort of gift might be appreciated, and by asking that question create the only situation in which a mannerly bride can actually TELL people what is wanted.

Right around now, only next year. If people plan things for Labor Day weekend, they might completely forget to RSVP to your wedding, so I would have the RSVP the week before and then expect not to hear from everyone until the week or two after. (People are never on time!)

If you have anyone coming from out town or out of state, send out a "Save the Date" card at least three months in advance to allow them time to take off of work and get a hotel room.

A friend of mine sent out a magnet with a picture of her and her fiance and the date of the wedding. Here's a site that does them: http://www.savethedatemagnet.com/?gclid=CP7T-fzkmo4CFQwuHgodfGoeRA.

Then send out the invites between a month or two in advance, with the RSVP date about two weeks before the wedding I'd say (or whenever the caterer or reception hall needs the head count by).

How many days in advance does your caterer and sites need to know the total coming?

If its two weeks, then they need it NLT September 26th. I would want all RSVPs back by September 19th. That way you'll have a week to call up those who have NOT RSVP'd on time.

So have your RSVP date September 19th. Send the invites out August 1st.

If its four weeks, then have the RSVP be Sept 5th, again so you have a week to call the rude nonRSVPers up, and send out the invites August 1st.

Hi. I depends on your reception venue and caterer of when they need the "numbers." At my daughter's wedding, we needed to give our numbers to the hotel 1 week in advance, so we put the date as 2 weeks prior just to give ourselves time for the last minute ones to come in. We needed to call a few people also that didn't mail it in by the date. So......whatever time your caterer needs (say 1 week), add to that another week or 10 days and you will be fine.

anywher between 2 - 4 weeks prior, depending on what you have to do based on the number of guests. You also have to have enough lead time to call all of the (rude) people who don't RSVP. Yes, a lot of people won't even let you know one way or the other.
