But is it a useful language? What is the point of learning a language if no one you know speaks it or it won't benefit you in the job market. Now a days, it seems that Spanish is the only second language worth knowing in America.

Why would we want to? Another language, that's convenient to learn, would be useless if there was no one else to speak it with and experience it. How many people speak the "artificial" language Esperanto?
