I know that Jewish people have kosher meals. But what are they? Do they have these meals everyday or just on the Sabbath? And why do they practice this? And why is it not practiced by Christians?

A kosher meal is something that is eaten everyday. All food consumed must be labeled as kosher and there are many different rules to kashrus. For example, milk and meat must not be eating together and they cannot share the same plate. There are way too many laws to go into here, but trust me, there are alot! Laws of Kashrut were handed down in the Torah as ways to help elevate the soul and stay holy and connected to Gd. There are also health benefits to being kosher, such as not being allowed to eat a certain cut of meat because of the quality.

They really are very interesting laws. I would suggest speaking to a Rabbi about them. Many Rabbis will be happy to provide you with information.

God gave the Jewish people dietary restrictions that they are supposed to follow all of the time, not just on sabbath. Not all jews do, and not all jews agree on what is kosher and what is not.

Some of these restrictions are in the Torah, such as the prohibition on Swine and the prohibition on eating an animal cooked in its own milk. Most of these laws were made without God giving a reason why - the jews were merely told to obey.

Others became a part of Jewish Law (Halacha), which extended the Jewish dietarty law via interpretation, kindof like common law is today to legislation. For example, the prohibition on cooking an animal in it's own milk was extended to not mixing any meat product with any dairy product, so according to halaha, you can't have a turkey sandwich with cheese, even though turkeys can't make cheese. Another extension was that utensils can only be used for meat or dairy, but not both. This is to guarantee there is no accidental mixing of meat an milk.

If a product is certified kosher by a rabbinical organization, it follows both the halahic law and the biblical law.

These laws are not followed by Christians because God gave the laws to the Jews. There is no reason for followers of other religons to follow them. However, Kosher products are purchased by other religons for non-religous reasons. Kosher hot dogs taste better. Kosher poultry is safer and has less chance of salmonella. Kosher butchers in China are doing extremely well because their government can't be trusted to safeguard food safety. Vegetarians can be assued that kosher-dairy and kosher-parve products do not contain meat products other than fish.

Kosher meat is killed in a faster and more humane way; I believe it's very similar to the 'Halal' meat eaten by Muslims.

In addition, Jewish people are not supposed to eat certain foods; these include pork, prawns, and other types of shellfish.

Milk and meat are never supposed to be mixed.

It should be noted that Jesus was of course Jewish and he lived as a Jew; that is to say, he followed these dietary laws. Jesus never suggested that they be abandoned.

I don't think a previous answer was right regarding non Jews eating kosher food - as far as I am aware they just eat it along with Jewish people if they are at a kosher function.

I've had kosher ice cream, by the way and it's fab!

yes, the law was fulfilled by Jesus Christ...

But he did not do away with the Ten Commandments and the dietary laws....

unclean is still unclean!!

this is listed in Leviticus and Deuteronomy.......not to eat that which is unclean...cat, dog, rat, pig, clam, crab, lobster, shrimp, vulture, hawk, eagle.....these animals are the clean up crew for the environment....they eat the dead and left overs of....

from what has occurred over the years in the beef industry ( the forced feeding of recycled farm animals to the cattle) the antibiotics, chemicals, pesticides...I would put beef as unclean for now also.....and dairy products from these cows...

Kosher is a life style of clean eating and food preparation for religion and health.....

And it is practiced by many Christians who understand the context of the dietary laws in the old and new testament...

7th Day Adventists are vegetarians.....I do a small amount of chicken since my system can not handle that much bean and grain.....

the verses that many use to give them selves permission to eat unclean things was in reference to the jews /clean and the gentiles/ unclean, that the gospel was for everyone..... not just for the clean nation of Israel....the gospel was for the whole world.....

need to really study those verses in depth.....why would things that were unclean for food before the cross be clean for food after the cross?? the pig did not change, none of the animals changed....only man's relationship with God changed....

It used to be in the "good old days" that only food that was "pure and properly prepared" was consider "kosher".

Today, almost any food, even pork chops, trans-fat, artifical dyes, preservative junk-added foods can be made FULLY KOSHER if you pay enough money to some Jewish rabbi in New York City who will then gladly add his kosher trademark < K > stamp to all food. Maybe now also a stamp ? More smoke and mirrors ! ?

I will never pay extra $$ to buy < K > food ! That's a big rip-off ! Would any Catholic "Pope" charge all humans worldwide everytime they take a breath of the Holy Catholic Air here ? Hmm ... only if the "Popes" thought they could get away with it ! LOL

In the True Spirit Liberty of our Creator Father God Jesus Christ, there are no physical food rules. Just be careful what "mental food" you allow your mind to digest ! With God's Spirit above and within, you can be empowered each Day in God's Light here to have ever more pure thoughts and actions. Practice the Presence of God ! zero calories ! no transfat ! Hurry ! NOW only ! FREE ! (Serious, plus a little humor)

Your correct that it is for people of Jewish faith. They are items that have been prepared apart from other food items. They have also been blessed. The meat like cows and chickens have been processed in a separate way, they have been blessed before being killed, they are slaughtered differently and are bled out. Nothing ever comes in contact with non-Kosher like it has to be prepared in a seperate kitchen on a specified grill/stove reserved for the food. Also, if you are not Jewish and you are attending an event where Kosher food is served you cannot eat from the Kosher items, you must eat from separate items as to not taint them.

The Muslim faith has a very similar rule about their food as well.

Pork is not eaten by either faith.

It's a meal that adheres to the Jewish food laws, as laid down in Leviticus.

It should be practised by Christians as the Christ himself said that not an iota or dot of the old laws would pass until all had been fulfilled.

Observant Jews must follow the Kashrut dietary laws at all times. Most of these laws come from Leviticus. The link from Wikipedia below should help you understand the concept better.

god said there is a certain way an animal should be killed and there are some animals are not clean to eat, modern science knows why it's because of cholesterol and parasites also it comes down to any animal that eats s.hit , Christians take scripture out of content's and think they can eat what ever they like well Paul said he was under no law but not all things benefit him.

Hebrew National hot dogs. Damn they are good. It is so laughable that a supposed kosher ,and used to be holy, company is now owned by one of the worst companies that exemplifies utter corporate greed no matter the cost to anyone else, that being ConAgra foods.
