The Macro feature allows you to shoot things very close-up and still maintain focus. With the regular settings on your digital camera, you can get only so close to your subject without having them fall out of focus.

It will enable you to take pictures that the normal auto-focus wouldn't allow you to because you are too close (in other words close-ups).
You may also have a "Distant" (sometimes a symbol like a range of mountains) setting which gives a fixed distant focus and enables you to take pictures further away without close things throwing out the autofocus, e.g. window glass.

Its for the really close close ups...like a butterfly on a flower and such like....brings the small item into close up and leaves the background out of focus......usually for auto focus cameras so the camera knows what to focus on.

It will allow you to get closer to your subject. How to use it can be found in your Owner's Manual.
Does anyone ever read the Owner's Manual?
