Would it be fair to say about Australia....?

Question

First of all, I am Canadian....and it seems to me that if Canada had a sister country, it would be Australia. Yes, the U.S is right there, but we really aren't that similar to the U.S.

Upon meeting some Australians in Laos this year, I was amazed at how smooth our conversations were. I believe Canadians and Aussies to be very nice to strangers something not shared by most Americans.

What do you think? Are Australians, and Canadians similar? While in Laos, I was happy to help an Aussie and lend him some money to cross the border (he was totally honest and repaid the money the next day); similarily Aussies were always very friendly and very approachable.

What do you think? Canadians and Aussies, very similar? A friend of mine is going to university in Melborne, I hope to visit her and Australia next year.

i am in adelaide south australia.
i have many Canadian friends
they are all lovelly people.
i wouldnt go lending money to any aussie
like u did to that one u refered to
as not all are as honest.
but that is the same in any race.
Canadians know how to chill out.
USA is so up tight.
they need to learn how to enjoy
sit back and have a nice cold beer

and so does Australia.

U can say that for sure afterall it's still UK influence ruling over both the countries and the language is similar. I don't rally think US shares it's traits with UK so it's a definate thing conflicts will arise language wise, personality wise and by political viewpoint too.

Being friendly and genuine truly depends on person to person and his/her upbringing i'd not compare it with contry trait as such lol maybe the guy u met was really genuine and well brought up. Hooligans r born everywhere so r genuine people.

But likes in tersm of beers yes it can be counted on, Brits influence and ofcourse beautiful girls ummm u know wat hybrid roots lol but in general i find australians are the best looking people on this planet coz of their skin colour , hair colour, and heights. They r awesome.

Well my brothers studying in Australia right now in Brisbane and hez happy there. I met a Australian lady from melbourne university last year and she was such a wonderful person and i was really happy that i cud meet such a warm friendly person. Ofcourse the feeling was mutual lol she did end up talking with me for 2 hrs or so lol.

So yes genetic hybrid traits and living style coz of british is more solid influence. So i think u can say these countries r almost similar. And please do go to Australia it's the best place ever which is present on this planet. I so want to go there soon. Hopefully soon. C ya Mate :D

Unlike some of these racist people who say otherwise, a lot of Australians get along with MOST races, and we "get" each other also. I think your statement that "most Americans" aren't nice to strangers is absolute crud, I was treated excellently 98% of the 6+ year I was there and I was bailed out of a few jams with my car and other things dozens of times. If American's have issue with Canadians, that's between you guys but we have no more special a link with Canada than any other place.

I reckon that Canadians and Aussies are quite similar. I travelled in Cambodia with some Canadians for a bit in December/January of this year, and the similarities were quite obvious: We enjoyed a drink (or several drinks). We seemed to have the same sense of humour, which a lot of Americans couldnt seem to understand. We didnt seem to get as upset about things going wrong.

What an accurate picture you have. We love Canadians, not so much Americans, sorry to generalise but we are talking chalk and cheese here. Personally we are extremely careful never to confuse your accents as the offense is great (I understand why).

You are not loud, brash and rude also - so that helps. Your shows are a hit with us, you are not crazy fundamentalist xians which is also something in common.

So I'm sure you'll find Australians very welcoming and similar to your fellow Canadians.

Yes, I know a fair few Canadians and they understand Australians much more than the Yanks I've met. Canadians are such friendly people and they've got a funnier sense of humour than Americans.

I live in Queensland and say "eh" at the end of my sentences, it's a northern thing apparently. No one says "ya", that sounds more South African to me.

As a Canuck, I would have to agree, we share more commonalities with Australians when it comes to values and opinions-I think that may be because we're both british commonwealths like u mentioned, but we still get most of our culture form the "States", so outward we look and talk like Americans. I wonder if its the same with New Zealand and the U.S. lol

I agree. I met some Canadian tourists recently and I found them more relaxed than Americans. Don't get me wrong, not all Americans are "stuck up" but some ARE. (I also observed this when I go to Thailand and watch the different nationalities behave at hotels and tourists sites)

Yeah, I think it's a fair statement. I've lived in Sydney my whole life, but I have definitely heard of Canada being referred to as a parrallel nation to Australia.

I guess the only difference is that your prime minister isn't bum chums with Georgie boy...
