There is a misrepresentation of the meaning of the Mayan calendar and the date 2012, it does not mean the end of the world, it means the end of the world as we know it, it is going to be a new age of enlightenment, something major is going to happen that will change us forever.
Some say it will be beings from another planet , planet nibiru , (google Sumerian texts and planet nibiru),others believe that some major technological advancement will change humanity.
There are many theories around the Mayan calendar, and there are many conferences on the subject that give hope , do not fear anything.

Not even the Mayan calender predicts that the world will end when the Mayan calender predicts that the world will end.
Seriously.
When people think about when the Mayan calender predicts that the world will end, they always think of 2012. It does NOT predict that the world will end then. That is a modern misinterpretation which the Mayans would have laughed at.
The Mayans made prophecies about what would happen in the world long after the year 2012. If they really thought the world was going to end then, their prophecies about the world obviously would have ended there, too.

It's true whether god said it or not. The future is unpredictable most of the time. However, I'll make a prediction anyway: if we don't stop destroying our planet and if we don't take steps to repair the damage already done, we're not going to be around for much longer.

If you want to learn about the subject without having to sort through a lot of anonymous answers by strangers, about whom you know nothing, including whether they know anything, there's a way to learn.
The reading list below can act as a source for you. Most of the titles can be found in your local library. If they don't have them they can borrow them from another library.

Congratulations! You're not a complete fool.
Even religions that predict an "end of the world" don't give an exact time.
