The above methods work, if you have a pair of glasses with one of those fabric clothes that come with it to clean them, they work really well.

without knowing the specific manufacturer and model of your camera, it's hard to give specific answers, but here's some generic guidance. The LCD screens on cameras are extremely sensitive. Most manufacturers recommend cleaning only with a damp cloth. Anything that you try to remove scratches will almost certainly make the situation worse. As for replacing the LCD, that would certainly be an option. You could check the manufacturer's website for information about camera service. You may even be able to find a replacement screen on Ebay (Maybe from a camera that is not working anymore)

Check here a good photography course online:
http://photography-course.info

You can be like the masses of humanity and buy a camera you can afford that has auto this and that for worry free picture taking. And learn through trial and error how to use something like aperture or shutter priority auto modes or even attempt to use the thing on full manual mode.
You seem to know already there is some thinking to using a camera and to take pictures. A good place to start is by reading the owners manual that comes with a camera. Read the information and look at the illustrations with part names and look at the real camera. Handle the camera and take pictures. Let me rephrase that. Take pictures to learn how to use the camera and maybe even to keep some. Don't start with important stuff you cannot photograph over again such as birthdays, a toddlers first steps. That puts picture taking out of the learning phase and puts the pressure and emphasis to taking pictures for real and to keep.
These first pictures are for you to learn how to use your camera. And you have learned how to use your camera when you can take pictures with it and can teach others how to use it. Honest. You can also go to a college in your area and take a beginning photography course. There you will be taught the basics even a pro must learn and do in their work. Camera handling and use, taking exposures with film and/or digital cameras, and maybe even some photo assignments to get some real time learning. In this learning do not take serious pictures you must keep as that detracts from the learning aspect of the class. Do so only if you have mastered the use of your camera before class is over.
It's like growing up in a way. And I am happy you know there is a way to learn how to use a camera and take pictures. It's like learning how to drive I suppose. Someone can teach you or you can get taught at a driving school. Both will get you a drivers liscense. One though will really teach you the fundamentals you can use for the rest of your driving career.

Clean the lens with a blower (canned air) and use a microfiber cloth (it's will remove the oils from fingerprints nicely), if there's no microfiber cloth handy, I suggest using a well-worn cotton t-shirt or handkerchief to clean a camera or lens because, the more worn the cotton fabric is, the more likely it is to be soft and lint-free. If you have a really stubborn fingerprint to remove, you can breath very gently on the lens to let a little moisture from your breath condense on the lens, and then wipe it with the cloth. Additionally, if you ever use a liquid cleaner designed for cameras, never apply it directly to the screen, apply it to the cloth. Don't use household liquid cleaners on your lens or screen, most tend to contain oils.
Good luck.

Well you've gotten some good suggestions. I'd probably use a lens cloth myself.

To really protect your lcd screen, go to hoodmanusa.com and look for one of their screen protectors to fit your screen.

To protect your entire camera, check out cameraarmor.com and bonicadive.com. They have protective covers to help keep dirt, sand and moisture from messing up your camera.

Yeah, the lens cloths that come with prescription glasses are one of the best things out there!
They're specifically designed to be scratch-free and to get those little smudges and smears and flecks of dust of without damage. You should always still be very gentle of course.

If you go into a high-street opticians they will probably give you a couple for free if you ask - and if not, I'm you could buy a few from them for next to nothing!

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

I use a piece of cotton cloth to clean the screen and a cotton bud to clean the lens. I don't use any solutions on them and they always look clean after I've done them.
