Hi there, i've got a very old untreated hardwood fence that i will have to paint sometime soon, i will be using fence paint , the thing is i dont know if i should buy one of those cheap spray guns from Bunnings, or if i should paint the fence with a fence brush or a small roller, will i be able to use the spraygun with fence paint? which method uses the least amount of paint? which method is the guickest?

I would say the spray gun would be the cheapest, quickest method. You have to put a thinner in the paint sometimes the stores will put it in for you without any extra cost. You will need to staple cardboard on the backside of what you are painting or lean a piece of plywood against it so the paint doesn't go everywhere. I personally like the look of rolled on paint trimmed with a brush. But something like a fence should still look good with a sprayer.

I never had good luck with Rollers or sprayguns. They're very messy. Use a good 4" brush. Spray guns are the quickest, but you won't like the results. Go slow, use a brush, and you'll be happy with the results. Where you going?? Do a good, slow job with a brush. Regards-Bob.

I found the spray gun a total load of rubbish! Used a brush in the end and it took me four days!!! Fence looks like new now though so well pleased really!

the spray is too messy.
we use brushes on our wood privacy fence - but if its never been painted it will really soak up that first coat.
