Oh, man, black people and women and people in general who are offended by this quote have a reading comprehension problem.

C'mon, people! If you're going to insist on misreading quotes for the purpose of being offended, you're not going to get any sympathy.

Sigh - look at all the people who read this as an attack on black people and/or women. No wonder we can't solve these problems - you people can't even read a simple sentence. And look at what the dipshit below me wrote.

I don't see the problem with it..... It's a quote from 1944 its 2007 now and its says theses are not beneath the other. animals - humans blacks - whites or women - men that we all should be treated fairly and as history shows we all wasn't, but people whites and blacks seem to want to drag it out come on IT'S TIME TO LET IT GO women did..There was a time they could do nothing, and had to bow down to men, in fact today they still do, make their dinner clean their houses do their laundry raise their children plus work, .. my point is its time to forget the way things use to be and stop trying to find something wrong with every little thing..that's said written OR done enough is enough get over it already, everyone who had anything to do with that part of our history is probably 6 feet under by now right where the rest of the b.s should be...I mean blacks and whites both need to give it a rest already the past is just that American History....

Who is Al White? What do Americans have to do with it?

Your question: "...why is [are] black people portrayed in such a way?" The statement seems to suggest that all living things are equal and no one can claim ownership over another, i.e., animals have rights, slavery is wrong, as is misogeny and mistreatment of women.

Reading the statement and reading your question would seem to suggest that YOU think that slavery is acceptable????That's racist !!!!!

I've never heard of this "great American": greatness usually implies the majority of people know who they are. So some animal rights person makes a statement and you want Al White to show his courage against your apparent racist and sexist attitudes? Hmmmm.....

Remember, the woman that wrote this was in between some very heated debates such as the sufferage movement where women fought for the right to vote as well as the equal rights movement for blacks in this country. When she made that statement she was in a prodominantly segregated city where blacks and whites had different water fountains, bathrooms, busses or give up seats for whites, but were "free" in a since. (Sorry, but if that was freedom I'd hated to be free). These people still held a grudge to black people and even if they were free and they were allowed to vote, they were still viewed as nothing but a work horse. Black men had the right to vote before any woman no matter her race or ethnicity. So her reference was made because of the up and coming segregation movement.
She was against the segregation and even walked in several protests with the Dr.

In other words, nobody has the right to enslave animals (false), nobody has the right to enslave black people (true), and nobody has the right to enslave women (true).

The reason so-called Animal Rights activists use it is that the second and third parts are true, have generally been acknowledged for a long time now. The fact is, we do not literally "enslave" animals, as they do not generally have enough intelligence to be considered slaves. But we do have the right to control those animals we breed specifically for our own purposes.

Their rights have to do with being treated humanely: proper food and shelter, medical care, and a quick and painless death when the time comes. There's nothing wrong in controlling their breeding or forcing them to work (unlike a human) so long as it is fed and watered, not treated with cruelty.

When people claim that animals have all the same rights as humans, they are creating an absurdity as far as the law is concerned. For example, an animal has no moral judgment, and cannot be held responsible for its actions. A vicious animal will be put down as a matter of safety, but it is not "punishment" in the same way humans are sent to jail. An animal cannot inherit, although an institution set up to care for them can. Quaint old ladies who "leave their money to their cats" are actually leaving it to a trust fund to care for the cats. The cats don't go to the bank or write checks.

it's kinda depressing that you would ask a question like this.

OK..looks at the quote...look at all the letters and the groups they are in, read all the words..do this again

It says Animals were not made for humans, since attitude most have is that animals are here for humans to do with as they please.

Says animals are not here for humans pleasure JUST like blacks are not here for whites' use, or women for mens' use

Get it?

Or do we have to go back to middle school english class?

I'd take it as a compliment. I'd rather have animals who love me around me then pompous wind bag white people. By the way I am white and I am Pagan. As a former Catholic at seven years old my mother told me that black people should stay with their own kind. And people have the nerve to wonder WHY I went running and screaming away from that racist religion.

All of creation was made to serve another but not in slavery or bondage. As for this constant race thing look at the source that is spewing this crap and you will know where the enemy stands. This planet has countless numbers who feed off others and keep the fires burning so hate and division continues between the worlds people. It is insane to hate a race of people just a small 3% who make them look bad. It is eaiser to control confused people than those who are steadfast and in unision with all life

Don't know. It's a group thing I guess. Us and them. We and they. Believers non believers. Faithful and atheists. I suppose I fall into the same trap even though I try not to notice color. I try to make myself think that although your skin is a darker shade than mine, I have a mole on my cheek that you probably don't have. Only makes us a little different. Just like everybody is a little different from anybody else. But I'm only human and slip up on occasion. But hopefully I catch myself before I do anybody any harm emotionally. You get caught up in the same trap I see. Addressing your question to a group of "All white Americans." Let's both work on it shall we?

I have never heard this quote before. If I understand the meaning correctly, it is saying that animals do not belong to humans, black people do not belong to white people, and women do not belong to men. Maybe I don't understand your question, but I don't see it as an insult.
