There are more ways to help the homeless than a soup-kitchen, but if that's what you want try Lifeshare in Manchester who draw volunteers from all over Greater Manchester and encourage people to set up services in their own towns. Otherwise ask the Salvation Army or at your local library or volunteer services.

I Live in Bolton and i don't think there is one, don't know about Wigan though. You could always ask at the Salvation Army Hostel on St Georges Road, they might know. Good Luck.
