Satan had enslaved all of mankind under his dominon of evil.

Until Satan's dominion could be destroyed, forgiveness was futile, as all of mankind was permanently and irrevocably enslaved to Satan, sin, and death.

Jesus permitted Satan and his minions to unjustly take his life ... which was the ONLY WAY to destroy his evil dominion ... since no one ... not even the devil ... had the power or the authority to take the life of a sinless man ... let alone the only son of God.

Once Satan's dominion was destroyed, and his authority and power over mankind eliminated ... forgiveness ... and the restoration of all that was lost ... could begin.

And that remains the continuing mission of the authentic church.

Throughout history, there have been many mythological stories of the gods themselves dying or suffering for humankind. Think of Prometheus, who in Greek mythology was punished for bringing fire to humans. He was placed on a rock and an eagle came by every night and ate out his liver! It grew back every day. Human beings have wonderful imaginations.

If God is an almighty being, why can't he forgive humanity without killing someone first?

Either God isn't almighty, or he just felt like killing someone.

Either way, anyone like that is not worthy of being worshiped.

The Christian god was often 'appeased' by blood sacrifice. In the incident that you are referring to, he apparently set up his own son/self to be cruelly tortured and suffer a gruesome and agonizing death... in a perverse public spectacle of blood sacrifice... to APPEASE HIMSELF.

Now I sure don't want to be blasphemous here... and I don't know about you... but where I come from, folks tend to think that this kind of behavior is sympomatic of some kind of mental disorder.

Oh... yeah... and BELIEVING that this sort of thing is somehow 'good' is ALSO symptomatic of some kind of mental disorder. Well... either that, or it is irrefutable evidence of brainwashing. GOT to be one or the other.

If you fancy that you have an open mind, then I will try to explain what I think is the Christian understanding. But you have to email me because, not knowing you, the chances are that you don't really care to know.

Yup, that makes total sense. I know it does, somehow. I'm sure there's a book that could explain it but I like science fiction not fantasy.

I come not to condem the world but to save the world.
I am that I am. Jesus is God as man. All three in one.
