Well I know there is a superstion (sorry spelling) of the 7th son of the 7th son having mystical powers also the 7 deadly sins.
I am not sure why 7 is such an interesting number,

I was talking to a tarot reader once in Jackson Square New orleans and he was telling me that the numbers 3 and 7 have all sorts of magical properties, you find them in lots of different religions and such. I can't remember much more about it, I was drunk a lot back then.
