one of my dogs does that, sometimes after he's played and is resting, he's kind of half smiling and his tongue is hanging out on side of this mouth.

Yes, i have had a couple of dogs over the last 40 years of breeding that will sleep on their back. Its quite amusing if a cat decides to sleep in the crevice of the upturned back legs

Yes, My mom has 2 shitzus and the female, older one sleeps on her back with feet in the air. She also snores very loudly. Belly up is a position i think shows that the animal is not in fear of anything, and feels safe to expose such a vulnerable area.

LOL yes, I do. I have a boxer/pit bull mix, who loves to sleep on her back, diagonally at the foot of my bed, usually legs in the air with the paws bent over. It is so cute!!!!! Then when she wakes up she will take her paws and rub her head aggressively. I have a photo array of this but don't know how to post it on here.

Yes, and it's actually a very good sign. It means that the dog is comfortable with its surroundings. If the dog lets you touch its belly, it also means the dog knows you are the boss. You must have done a good job training him.

I have a dachshund/spaniel mix and she sleeps on her back with her legs straight up in the air every single night!
She sleeps in our bed right inbetween my husband and I with her head on the pillow and she snores LOUDLY.
Sometimes I think it must be my husband snoring...a dog couldn't snore so loud. But, it is her!
We love her to bits though and we would miss her if she wasn't here...even her snoring :)
Good luck!

My Chihuahuas do it sometimes. They get in the weirdest, most uncomfortable looking positions, I've ever seen! I like pulling out my camera and taking pictures of them. I have some of the funniest pictures of them sleeping, in different positions. It's so cute!

OMG yes!!! I have 3 little guys who all sleep on their backs ~ if they are not on their backs, in their own special spot on the bed ~ well trust me, they get insomnia, roll around growl at their tails, jump up flop back down the whole "someone is going to have to move so I can have my part of the real estate back!!!"
