is there a specific `cut-off' year that you are no more considered a peranakan? as i have friends who are being called `baba' as they do not speak chinese. please help!!

Peranakan is the identity of chinese race.If your grand parents came from China and then their children married among chinese too and they have children so they are called peranakan too although they can not speak chinese language (mandarin).But if you got married with pribumi(local woman) then your children are not peranakan,because they are not pure chinese.Peranakan will be eliminated if all chinese got married with the local men/women.They will not be treated as peranakan anymore.

well u still are. it does not matter if u speak chinese or not. peranakans are straits born chinese. it doesnt mean you have to know how to speak chinese.

if ur grandparents are peranakans then ur parents are to so this means u are
