Hi.

I am travelling with two of my friends and staying in Bangkok from 20th to 24th Jan 08.

Any info on good hotels around US $ 50-60 located close to shopping and eating areas?

I read quite a lot about hotels in bangkok but this would be helpful if I get some reviews on good hotels.

Thanks in advance.

Also should I book a hotel before reaching bangkok or should I book a hotel when i get there?

Thanks

I can recommend City Lodge, Sukhumvit Soi 19 - near Asoke BTS. There is also a City Lodge at Soi 9 - near Nana BTS.

For other options, browse via links.
Book before arrival.

Try www.asiarooms.com, unfortunately, the hotel rates on this site go up after October 31st, 2007 and some quite dramatically.

I would suggest the Swiss Park Hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 11
http://www.asiarooms.com/thailand/bangkok/swiss_park-hotel-location.html

Or check out the others. There are reviews on most of the hotels on Asiarooms.com

Try to see if www.sawasdee.com has better rates or www.res24.com or try www.kayak.com or www.sidestep.com which are search engines for flights and hotels.

I don't stay near Sukhumvit, I like to get away from it at the end of the night. Hahaha

Yes, please reserve in advance, the above sites are bulk reservations systems and they get a real good rate when compared to the "internet" some of the hotels have on their websites. These rates are stable for one year pretty much, but, with the devaluation of the dollar it hurts Americans when it comes to traveling there and other places.

Good luck

I would book a hotel in advance for at least a few nights and if you don't like the place your have time to look around and find something better, but you don't want the problem of asking a taxi driver to recommend one to you. your lose out that way. below is one of many web sites for hotels in bangkok, the listing is by area in bangkok I would recommend anywhere on sukmitvit betwwen soi 3 and up or siam center area.

Grand Mercure Fortune Bangkok Hotel
Location: Ratchadaphisek near Phra Ram 9 subway station
Connected to the Fortune Town mall (lots of electronics) and Tesco Lotus many places to eat.
$52 per night

I've been by the City Lodge at Soi 9 it looks nice, recently refurbished. The rooms were about $80 and they were always full up so I didn't stay there.

Visit www.onevacationclub.com - You can book on line. I have used them in the past and are very good. Click on Holiday Shop or Worldwide Travel to find the hotels/stars/info/location/reviews etc.
You do not need to be a member to book the hotels, however as a member you will save more money as you will be able to book resorts and those prices are per unit rather than per person.
Have a nice holiday.

I think you've already received some good answers here.

There are plenty of good hotels in your price range, but , perhaps what you now need is something to compare the hotels on offer. This site has the ability to sort by location , star rating , price and name.

Hope this helps
