Outside of Australia, pick ONE specific destination that is either your favorite or your ultimate dream vacation spot. No such replies like a European tour, noe an Asian swing.

Imagine staying in that one place for just one week.

Batanes. It is the smallest province in the Philippines, north of the northernmost tip of Luzon. In fact, it is closer to Taiwan than it is to the the largest island in the Philippines.

Batanes is a cluster of islands with stone houses and roof made of grass. The place is idyllic and resembles the Scottish Highlands in topography. Yet it is so unspoilt that it is listed in the Unicef Heritage List.

There is zero crime rate. The locals go about their daily routine of fishing and tending to their farm leaving their doors open. The kids go around town in bicycles, leaving their bikes by the roadside when they feel like climbing the hills or going down the beaches. There is no regular transportation in the islands so people hike up the hills and go down the immaculate beaches following their whims, going arounf the islands almost aimlessly and without any real itinerary. Accommodations are unbelievably, unthinkably inexpensive. Of course it is not anything close to luxurious, just clean and spartan.

My concept of a dream holiday is NOT a spa-type leisurely vacation. Going back to basics, reconnecting with nature and feeling the gentleness of human beings is to me the best, most blissful holiday.

You can read up on Batanes in Lonely Planet if you want more information. Or email me.

Maldives definitely - I had it as wallpaper on my computer for ages. Just the whole idea of a remote island paradise with a lounge room floor made of glass standing over the ocean is almost too incredible to believe.

I'd very much like to visit Thailand and Fiji. They sound amazing from what I've been told by friends who have been, and they have rich culture that I would love to experience.
