This question is directed to the guys, though girls' responses are also appreciated. Whenever my crush notices me looking at him, he looks away. This happens about once or twice a day in a 40-min. period. We don't really know each other, but see each other in the halls often. Could it be because he likes me too, and is nervous, or is it more likely that he looks away because he's weirded out?

I'm 15, and he's 17, if that's relevant.

I would look back in her eyes for a few seconds and then if she still hasnt turned away I would. Then if the situation is good I would go over and introduce myself.

Depends on the situation, sometimes I would just stare back, and sometimes I look away. Sometimes when I notice someone staring at me I begin to wonder why? Is there a stain on my clothes, my hair messed up, it can make you self conscious about yourself. Most of the time I would just stare back not caring what they are thinking.

Unless I was daydreaming/blanking out, I'd look away to hopefully give the impression that I wasn't staring. It's an embarassing thing to be caught staring by the person being looked at.
It's possible he likes you and nervous, but it may also be coincidence that he is looking at you simply 'cause he's looking around, sees you, notices you look at him, and quickly turn away.

It is a complex art, known as flirting. Generally speaking, men will drop thier gaze so as not to stare, because, among men, to stare is to challenge. The body language between men and women differs, depending on the sensibilities and intent of the parties involved.
The following link is to a site that delineates the body language of dating.
...since you are a minor, I will warn you about the adult oriented popup ad that comes up when you go to this site...
I strongly advise you turn on your popup blocker when visiting it...

If you want to buy a book on the subject, and can afford a fairly pricey volume (over $70), here is a link to Amazon books:

well, i'm a girl, and what i do when a man stares at me simply depends on the situation. if i see admiration in his look, i look back...but if it seems to me he's looking at a "piece of meat", then i feel annoyed look away.
the situation you are in is not weird. i think the man is nervous.

maybe he's intimidated. my crush can't look straight in my eye and my friend said the guy is intimidated or shy. but don't think hard unless he says why he acts that way. we see things differently with another.

I would stare back...
But, some do play the "hard-to-get game".... Hence you cannot make out whether he likes you or not....
