I'd like to get the top of my ear pierced?
Is it normal to have it done on the left or right ear?
Does anyone know anywhere in Cardiff, and if so where's the cheapest?

There is no right side or wrong side to get pierced when it comes to cartilage. If you have other facial piercings, get it on the side that will balance you out the most. I suggest going to a professional piercer to get this piercing. Stud guns are unsafe and unsanitary...plus the technicians at Claire's aren't trained properly for any kind of piercing. I could walk in there tomorrow, get a job, and be piercing by the end of the day...professional piercing takes a lot more training. As with a tattoo, try not to shop price because you get what you pay for. You get a cheap piercing, and you'll most likely have a higher chance of infection.

sides have no significance in cartilage piercings - get it done where you want, considering if you want other earrings / piercings to even out each side of your face
DON'T get pierced at Claires - although it's probably among the cheapest, it's the worst place for cartilage piercings - they pierce with a gun, which is unsterile and generally a bad idea (you're more likely to get an infection because the earring is blunt and it's forced through = trauma to the ear)
get pierced at a professional piercer with a needle - it may cost more, but it's less likely to get infected, and you'll have professional care and advice (training isn't exactly great at claires)

ermmm.....i have mine done on the left, simply because i have been told that there is acupuncture points in the right ear led to the kidney, which can cause obvious affects, so i really dont think it matters which side you have pierced on whether your bi/straight or gay.
i have also read somewhere in the answers given, not to have it done with a gun, and would like to stress that the whole ear is cartilage not just the top, mine was done with a gun and yes i have a shattered ear cartillage but it fixed, and this can happen whether you have it done with a gun or needle, they wouldn't do it if it was dangerous to your health...
i have now had mine for over a year,
and it is fine however i wouldn't recommend having it pierced in a stud and leave the ring in for around 5 months

It doesn't matter what side you get it done, i just got mine re-pierced today along with a few more! I always go to my tattooist as they do piercing as they are very clean and hygienic as they are registered with the health authorities. They give you good advice on how to clean it (dip a cotton bud in warm salt water clean front and back)
They use a needle to pierce to into the cartilage because the law to using a gun to pierce into the cartilage as it can damage it.The gun is only use to pierce the earlobe.

Make sure you get it done at a peircing shop, not just an ear piercing shop in the mall where they sell jewerly and do it with a gun. That is fine for ear lobe piercing but with cartaledge you have to be very careful cuz since its hard it can actuall shatter and make your ear deformed so cartaledge MUST be pierced with a needle just like a belly button is done. You definately dont want someone with a gun doing it, those people that do ear lobes are not trained to REALLY pierce things and if your cartiledge shatters there is no fixing it, you will have just unattached shattered pieces in your ear and it will be all mis-shaped and sick looking and INFECTIONS galore

it doesn't really matter which side... I've got both ears pierced... but for guys I've heard that if you get the right side pierced, it means your gay... i dunno, i just heard it from some people, but honestly it really doesn't matter... just make sure the utilities they use at the place they pierce are clean and sterilized... its gonna hurt for a couple of days, coz the upper part of your ear is harder... so be careful...
