Which is more cruel to women: Western society or Islam?

From my own presonal experience and observations (having lived in both societies fairly enough) I could give my answer...yet I wish to hear your answers first!

Western society falsely claims to have uplifted women
Western talk of women’s liberalization is nothing but a disguised form of exploitation of her body, degradation of her soul, and deprivation of her honour. Western society claims to have ‘uplifted’ women. On the contrary it has actually degraded them to the status of concubines, mistresses and society butterflies who are mere tools in the hands of pleasure seekers and sex marketeers, hidden behind the colourful screen of ‘art’ and ‘culture’.

USA has one of the highest rates of rape


United States of America is supposed to be one of the most advanced countries of the world. It also has one of the highest rates of rape in any country in the world. According to a FBI report, in the year 1990, every day on an average 1756 cases of rape were committed in U.S.A alone. Later another report said that on an average everyday 1900 cases of rapes are committed in USA. The year was not mentioned. May be it was 1992 or 1993. May be the Americans got ‘bolder’ in the following years.

Consider a scenario where the Islamic hijaab is followed in America. Whenever a man looks at a woman and any brazen or unashamed thought comes to his mind, he lowers his gaze. Every woman wears the Islamic hijaab, that is the complete body is covered except the face and the hands upto the wrist. After this if any man commits rape he is given capital punishment. I ask you, in such a scenario, will the rate of rape in America increase, will it remain the same, or will it decrease?

Suppose two sisters who are twins, and who are equally beautiful, walk down the street. One of them is attired in the Islamic hijaab i.e. the complete body is covered, except for the face and the hands up to the wrists. The other sister is wearing western clothes, a mini skirt or shorts. Just around the corner there is a hooligan or ruffian who is waiting for a catch, to tease a girl. Whom will he tease? The girl wearing the Islamic Hijaab or the girl wearing the skirt or the mini? Naturally he will tease the girl wearing the skirt or the mini. Such dresses are an indirect invitation to the opposite sex for teasing and molestation. The Qur’an rightly says that hijaab prevents women from being molested.

I think that a woman who have lived under an Islam influence most of her life and never experienced the western culture, does not know that the western society is cruel.

Same goes for a woman who have lived under the influence of western society and does not know Islam at all. They will not think that Islam is cruel.

I do not think that cruelty exist in both society, it is just different beliefs. And we have to respect whatever decision that a woman choose. In this case, I support the western society that gives woman an equal rights and voice and respect in everything we do...

I think the western society is more cruel to women, because Muslims have iman. There are some bad people in every religion and country. I guess it just depends on the culture that your from. The culture that I am from like 95% of the women are treated fairly.

Cruel? The same. Freedom, Western society. Right freedom, I don't know. Respect, Eastern. Value, eastern.
The Eastern society sees a woman as a mother hence more respect. Western society for the most part sees women as an object hence less respect. How many women have you seen calling themselves ***** or WHORE or wanted to get laid tonight. It is freedom but where is respect in that? Go figure.

I don't know but myself as a muslim, Islam isn't cruel to women.. The men are.. Prophet Muhammad cared about women and it's in islam to respect them, it's the "men that are muslims" that are cruel to women by making them cover themselves completely even at home. Not only in Middle East, even in western societies like Britain. Rape and abuse, it's all the men.. not Islam.

Perspective would be detriment, but only having one, I will try to be objective. In the West, we have sex sex and more sex absolutely SHOVED down all our throats. BUT, we also have all kinds of opportunities and new equality principles...cool!

In the East, there are new opportunities (depending on where one lives) but the majority seem to still hold the traditional idea of the woman being mother and wife. I have no life experience of this...only interpretation.

The west is cruel AND liberating to its women....I live near Hollywood. This is all I really know for sure.

Well James, you're comparing apples with oranges aren't you..?

On the one hand you speak of a religion which, like christianity, contains varying degrees of fundementalism, and on the other you speak of whatever YOU consider to be western society.. Does that mean Australia and America are on the same page..? They are NOT..!

American christian fundies have more in common with Iran than they do with Australia..
Not a very well balanced question is it..?

Many western societies also contain many practitioners of Islam, on the other hand very liberal forms of Islam can also be found in places like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, even Iran, and until recently Turkey, where some women there do very well for themselves, and many of these are far better off than a barefoot, pregnant and subservient christian housewife with a black eye in Kansas..

Clearly seeking such a simplistic answer is from a one eyed view point..

But to answer your question, all Abrahamic religions or versions thereof are patriarchal and misogynistic to a greater or lesser degree, with overlapping degrees of "cruelness" to women among them all..

So there are no absolutes when comparing the Abrahamic religions, other than comparing the doctrinal ignorance of the religion with the wisdom and higher learning of mainstream scienctific descriptions of the natural world, which offer far more reasons for humility, family values and peace on Earth..

Obviously this is an opinion as I am a Christian and never have been a Muslim. I think Muslim woman are. As a Christian woman in this society doing the Lord's work and wanting his will wholeheartedly for my life makes my life very agreeable to me. My husband as the head yet he wouldn't ever (never)would do something that would be against my wishes.

I would say that the crulest thing to women is not another society but rather other women.
