I am Catholic and I surely don't understand why so many anti-Catholics have been using the Bible that The Catholic Church has compiled against the Catholic Church and its members. I mean, if they are so anti-Catholic, why not just return the Bible that the Catholic Church has compiled and preserved for so many years?

lindsey, I'm asking the Catholics. I know you wouldn't understand the issue because, I assume you are not one of those protestants claiming to be Christians, and you're not Catholic either.

WISE 1, brainwashed follower? LOL! look who's talking! are you really a "wise one"? read history and you'll see that it is the Catholic Church that preserved the Bible, that is, if you hadn't distorted history to suit your claim yet. maybe you should re-think your "name".

Excellent question. Half of Protestants on here seem to think the bible was written by King James of England while the other half seem to think it dropped whole, black-leather bound, into an Alabama cornfield. I love my brothers in Christ, but some of them have a tenuous grasp on history. The bigots among them, of course, are just plain ignorant.

Note to Protestants: if you were to attend Catholic Mass every day for three years you would have heard the entire Old and New Testament proclaimed. And we all know St. Peter had a wife; your point?

You are right: If the Catholic Church teaches a false gospel, then the Bible, which explains the teachings of the Catholic Church, a work written by Catholics, read by Catholics, selected by Catholics, and canonized by Catholics, is also a false gospel. But of course, the Catholic Church never intended Christianity to be a religion of the book, like Judaism, Islam, and Protestantism. A religion of the book is a plastic religion that can be remolded to please the hard-hearted believer. For example, Chris finds verses he thinks says that you can commit any sin you please after being saved and still go to heaven. If ever a reading came straight from hell, that is it. In his infinite wisdom, Jesus Christ entrusted his teachings not to a book, but to the Church, the living community of faithful disciples with personal knowledge of the Word. Cheers, Bruce

Luke 5:1-11: 14:26
"So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him" (5:11).
Everything stand for mother, spouse, and children.
He must become first -- before father or mother, spouse or children Luke 14:26

A you “homeland Security” claim does not mean peter was with his wife. He is just helping his mother in law.

Response to host:
They add and twist the bible against use. Some times it seem that they are doing the will of Satan by deceive people turn fullness of salvation away from salvation to lesser one, where more danger of becoming atheist. Most knowledgeable Protestants become Catholics.

Put it this way, I knew some non-catholics christians who thought Jesus Christ wrote the bible and catholics amended it and created their own version..... because their pastor says so.

So much for integrity :P.

Anyway, most catholics does not feel good, but they do not really feel bad either.

So Oregon Flower, why do you think catholics do not know much of the original meaning of the bible when they compiled it? Why do you think your idea is more accurate?

Homeland Security, are you so sure? Could there be a mistake in the Translation? According to

Mark 1:30-31 : Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her. So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.

Luke 4:30 : And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.

The two were almost identical except the wording. There has been no information in Matthew regarding Simon's Mother in Law having fever.

You should read the full set of bible not cherry picking.

You sound somewhat naive since you don't seem to understand the gravity and magnitude of what you are saying.

While it is true that the Roman Catholic Church is responsible for compiling the Bible --and even tweaking it somewhat to suit its needs early on-- it is the same Church that GOES AGAINST what the Bible teaches. Instead, the RC Church has developed what is known as Catechism booklets that contains all the teachings of the Church, rather than referring to the Bible itself as other Christian denominations do during their regular Bible studies.

Since its inception [circa 325 AD] the RC Church has always FORBIDDEN its laity or the faithful from reading the Bible by themselves for FEAR OF MISINTERPRETATION by them. That task of reading Bible has always been delegated to the clergy, the Priests, who pick and choose or only extract very short passages during Mass. That's about it. And there is no Bible study for Catholics either, only CCD. But perhaps it has only been in these last few decades that Catholics have actually taken it upon themselves to read the Bible, if only for their own edification.

It was five centuries ago when certain individuals got a hold of printed copies of the Bible --translated from the Latin Vulgate version first to German, then to English-- which resulted in the birth of the Great Reformation and Protestantism. That was precisely what the RC Church had feared from its faithful for many, many centuries prior, until such time finally occurred.

What you and others may perceive as being "anti-Catholic" comments coming from others [non-Catholics] in general should not be construed as being derogatory on your part, but should be looked upon as reference points of discussion outlining where the RC Church's doctrines and teachings DIFFER FROM or contravene what the Bible states. In other words, the message being relayed is for the Catholics to "listen to the [teachings of the] Bible rather than to listen to the [teachings and traditions of the] Church" since these are entirely at odds.

It is quite unfortunate that the majority of Catholics, even up to now, still have not fully read the Bible in its entirety. Most of them remain oblivious to such discrepancies being commented upon --and thus become defensive-- while the majority still continues to rely too heavily in being spoon-fed by their clergy, or the latest news bulletins from the Vatican.

This happens to be so, only because the Catholic faithful have been instructed NOT TO QUESTION the Church at all, nor question the "infallibility" of the Pope. Such instructions are only written in Catechism booklets... and not in the Bible!

UNLESS they also participated in formulating such teachings and traditions of the RC Church, Catholics should not take these comments personally. They would be much better off to at least open their eyes and see some light, and begin to question the teachings and traditions of the Church without fear of losing their Faith. Those are two entirely different things altogether.

Peace be with you.

well ...i grew up catholic ...i thught a lot about why the catholics and ...not-catholic christians disagree so much sometimes.
...i think it is based on the fact that catholics have traditions ...as well as the bible ...and some of those traditions seem to conflict with what the bible states.
for a purist ...that can be a real sticking point ...for a catholic ...it is a point of discussion but not a deal breaker...that tends to really tick off purists.
...in addition ...there is the catholic version of the bible ...and the not-catholic version ...in fact there are many versions and commentaries ...
the fact that catholics say that they are the founders and keepers of the bible seems arrogant to those who are not catholic ...and in reality ...it is arrogant ...because ...catholics ...though there are a large number of them ...are not the center of the universe ...many popes were very evil men...though it is convenient not to remember.
...and people like martin luther were men of God...who stood against evil ...as jeremiah the prophet stood against the evil jewish leaders of his time.
in the broader sense ...christianity has nothing to do with catholic traditions or beliefs ...or protestant / non denominational traditions ..it has to do with the admission that we are all sinners who need to repent and personally accept Jesus Christ as lord and savior...as well as a commitment to live according to what Jesus said in the Lords Prayer ...that is what all of us will be judged by a few minutes after we leave the earth ...everything else is pretty much optional.

catholics preserved the bible?? whatever.
another brainwashed follower.
if you guys preserved the bible for so long...you didnt by the way,...then why dont you start living by what it says?
i have a catholic bible right here in front of me,which places the church above the bible.
as a real christian, thats offensive and unexceptable.
"There is only one true God. He took flesh and became man only once. When man, He founded only one religion and one Church, the Roman Catholic Religion and the Roman Catholic Church.

That Church is the divinely appointed guardian of the writings divinely inspired by God, known as the Bible. This Holy Bible is like no other book, because no other book has God for its principal author.

Nevertheless the Bible is not the foundation of the Church, but the Church is the foundation of the Bible. That is why Catholics need Mother Church as the guardian and interpreter of the Bible.

Alas, Protestants have sown much confusion in the domain of Bible translations and Bible Studies, and in our own time their errors have been renewed by the pseudo-Catholics known as modernists.

With the simplicity and clarity of a Catholic Catechism, this "Catechism of the Bible" re-establishes the mind of the Catholic Church on many a vexed point. May it help many Catholics graze safely in the divine pastures of Holy Scripture."
