leader-Jesus Christ
religion-The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints(christian)
Eph 5:23 .....even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
*oregon flower- wow, you had to look at other peoples answer to correct yourself, Christianity has no leader, ha! We don't think we are the ONLY church, there are many churches, catholics, baptist, pentecostals, jehovah's witnesses, get your facts straight. Study!
EDIT*** As far as human leaders......if you say prophet as one speaking for God, Amos 3:7, then it would be Gordon B. Hinckley. A very intelligent man, you should read some of his stuff. www.lds.org

"Why" : The "top" leaders of each religion are generally men, who are idolized by their followers. In genuine, spiritually -based Christianity, Jesus Christ is the "head" ! In other words, religion = a person-centered figure as the leader; whereas, in a Christian spiritual - based church is Jesus Christ !

The leader of my group is named Jesus Christ. He's the head of my organization. I'm not into following men.
Yah, we have leaders in the church, but we're all still following the Savior. Nothing more.

Christianity has no "top leader." Unless you consider the Pope, who isn't a born-again Christian, but thinks his church is the "ONLY" church. Mormons also believe theirs is the "ONLY" church, and their's is a cult. So your question is difficult, if not impossible, to answer.
I stand corrected. Jesus is our "top leader." ;-D
