I'm an evolutionist and one of my best friends is a devout Pentacostal Baptist. We respect each other's opinions and admire each other for different reasons. I admire her because she has a belief syndrome that supports her emotional wellbeing no matter what. She admires me for my logistical, scientific and practical approach to everything. We debate and discuss issues relating to both our beliefs.

How Christian is the christian? Because the bible does say that Christians are supposed to teach others about God. But if that christian tries to convert the atheist, and the atheist has some strong opinions - the atheist would probably question the christian until the christian until they curl up in the fetal position and cry, or just they may just keep quoting scripture, which does no good because the atheist doesn't believe it anyway. But the agnostic would be okay because they are undecided, and would be like "that makes sense" to both sides.

Why does it matter what your friends believe? I have friends that believe in all different kinds of things or are just simply an atheist and I'm a Primitive Baptist. Even the chains of Baptist churches don't agree on everything but it's no big deal. The only thing that matters is what you believe in for you. If you have friends of different religions or none at all, that's not going to affect what you believe in. I believe what I believe and won't be accountable of anyone else but me. They believe what they believe and they have their own things to deal with. I don't try to force my religion on them and they are the same way with me. The fun thing is that you can have some interesting discussions and learn about different things. What better way to understand and appreciate your beliefs and values than by hearing that of others?

Absolutely not. There is nothing wrong with socializing with people you disagree with; in fact, I believe it's a good thing. If we isolate ourselves and only associate with people who are just like us, not only do we run the risk of being narrow-minded (and sometimes even bigoted), but we forget that these are real people, not just labels like "Christian" or "atheist." Get to know a person; forget your differences, and embrace your similarities.

i personally am agnostic. my best friend of over 10 years is christian. we talk about our beliefs once in a while...keyword: TALK. having a friendship with someone with different beliefs is all about respect. i totally respect the fact that she believes in god. And she also respects the fact that i dont. i am totally willing to hear her point of view, as well as anyone elses. i do however, refuse to try to convert anyone to my beliefs, i simply express them, and if at the end of the day, someone still doesnt agree with me, who cares?
i think people need to be more understanding and respectful of others.

I am sure that all this has to do with the sexiness of one group or the other. Christianity is viewed, generally, as "not sexy", and therefore, not a good prospect for successful mating and producing off-spring. Atheists/agnostics/pagans are viewed as "sexy" and therefore the more desirable group. (Who cares about actual statistics? It is the PERCEPTION that is important, not the reality.)

Nothing to do with friendships.

I have atheist/agnotstic/pagan friends as well as Christian and there's only a problem if I start one. I pray for them and lead an example for them but I don't berate anyone.

There are problems only if a person of one faith or lack thereof constantly tries to bombard someone of another faith or lack thereof with their religious or nonreligious point of view.

There are also problems when those beliefs or lack thereof influence a person to adhere to certain political or social points of view the conflict with the views inspired by those of other beliefs or lack thereof.

Doesn't strike me as being a reason to avoid a friendship. I mean, one of my friends doesn't like chocolate - and if *that* isn't enough of a heresy to end a friendship, what's a little thing like religious differences?
