Does the bible state that God is only good [benevolent] and without wrath [malevolent]?

If so, please share the verse.

Benevolence is not equal to being 'just' is it?

Belevolent is an interesting word to describe God. He is also Just as you said. But this is by no means saying that God is a pushover.

Hebrews 10:31 " It is a fearful thing to fall to the hands of the Living God"

He is also Righteous and as one person said here .. He is a consuming fire.

Hebrews 12:29 " For our God is also a consuming fire"

Most of all.. I can honestly say that God is above all things, Balanced.

Luke 6:35 " But love your enemies and do good and lend expecting nothing in return and your reward will be great. And you will be sons of the Most High.. For He is Kind to the unthankful and evil"

He has a purpose to fulfill on this earth through us and He works His will and His good pleasure out no matter what. If we want to put Him in the box labelled " Benevolent , and Malevolent" then we can live life assuming and presuming many things regarding God.
He will allow us to reap what we sow since it is a principle. Yet with us, if our hearts are turned to the Lord, He will find a way for us where there seems to be no way at all. He will never give up on us even when we are low and seem useless.
Matthew 12:20
A bruised reed He will not break and a smoking flax He will not quench until He brings forth justice unto victory.

He loves us eternally and through His Son, paid the highest price for our salvation.
Romans 5:8
But God commends His own love to us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us"

We need to be so thankful for our God who knows exactly what we need in order to grow and go on. Whether its the benevolent showers of blessing or the heat of the sunshine, we need to realize that all if for us from Him. He sends both sunshine and rain to be upon both the just and unjust.

Good question.

Wrath is not necessarily malevolent. There can be a just anger and God has that character of just anger.

God is not like some old grandfather that gives us gifts (benevolent) and then we go away until we want more gifts. That is not God's love for us. His love is that He has asked us to become His sons and daughters. He is a loving Father but also a just Father to Whom we owe respect and to Whom we are accountable.

Rather, justice and mercy and compassion are all part of God's goodness.

So I don't think your verse exists.

I see no evidence for a benevolent, loving god. It seems hopeful to think of a personal god that cares, if a bit naive.

Justice can be served several ways; an eye for an eye, or forgiveness. Either way, the Law is fulfilled. The message I get from the New Testament is; if you don't ask for forgiveness, the Law is automatically dispatched.

Bible says that God is a consuming fire.

Yes, he has love and mercy. He also has hate and wrath.

The nice part is he lets you pick sides.
