Actually it is something you need to worry about. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is very serious and can cause alot of damage to the dog. Its kinda like shadow chasing. We really try hard to tell people not to use those laser lights on puppies and dogs to much because they can become obsessed with it. What I would do is start off having a collar and leash on him. When he begins doing this, give him a "EH EH" and just a slight tug on the leash. This will break his concentration. Then give him a cow hoof or some compressed rawhide. If he starts again, repeat the above over and over again to break this habit. Exercise will help more than you ever know. When you take him for walks, get him his own Back Pack and put a water bottle on each side of the pack. Give him a job to do. This will automatically turn a 15 minute walk into a 30 minute walk. Good luck my friend.

Did he just start to do this?
He is either stressed out or trying to bond with the floor.
1. You may not be spending a lot of time with him
2. He has adopted the floor as his friend.
3. He is grooming the floor because its his friend.
4. He needs lots of water in his water bowl and he mistakes the shine on the surface as moisture.
Ok , try keeping his water bowl full all the time, or fresh all the time.
If that doesnt stop him from licking , try buying him a toy eg. a stuffed animal. He will groom that instead of the floor.

Your right the dog is having a OCBehavior. Some other dogs will also tail chasing and that too is not good. If YOU think this is a problem then stop it now before he becomes so bad that its non reversal.
Like stated before the best way to stop this behavior is to stop by redirecting his behavior. As your dog is licking call his name and redirect him to behavior that is acceptable. When I got my second working German Shepherd male, he started doing the tail chasing. I started my rescearch on this behavior and found out that if any OCBehavior is unstopped, it becomes so exessive that most owners will get rid of the dog. So stop your dog now, and redirect him so he can be come a more relaxed dog. If your dog is bored, and not getting enough exercise this too will cause his OC behavior due to boredom. So walk, play, throw, run with your dog. A tired dog is a very very happy well behaved dog.

I watched a dog whisperer type show on tv where a dog used to lick to death the door frame. The whisperer suggested that every time the dog does this to clap your hands and walk out of the room, 9 times out 0f 10 the dog will stop the licking and follow you. Do this every time the dog starts licking and it will
eventually realise that when it does this , you leave......and it will stop the habit. Its an attention seeking thing apparently

I wouldnt worry about the sanitation on your behalf but more for your dog...
Also licking the floor is normal they probably just smell something that was dropped there ages ago.. get something like natures miracle to clean your floors and you should be fine!

His mouth is cleaner then any product you can ever buy at the stores. Some dogs need certain diets and he may just be lacking iron or something. its like seeing a dog eat grass or dirt your dog is just needing something more in his/her diet. So read the bag of dog food and find another dog food that has higher iron. Depending on the age of the dog is also a factor. Have fun finding a way for his habit to stop.

Dogs mouths are cleaner than ours. Just make sure that the cleaner that you use on the floors is safe for pets. Dogs do this all the time, they are very odd. There is nothing to worry about
