In the 10 commandments, there is Thou shalt not commit adultery, but no commandment pertaining to rape, the closest only being the commandments not to commit adultery and not to desire another man's wife.

Deut. 22:23-28 indeed mentioned death to the rapist, but only if the victim is a virgin engaged to another man, but the rapist can get away when raping a virgin who is not engaged simply by paying the girl's father and by marrying her. Also rape is a serious crime where the victim has no choice whatsoever so let's not compare it with some petty crimes like participating in dirty chat rooms or even in doing drugs where victims still have choices.

Rape in Biblical times was only viewed as wrong when it was done to a free Jewish woman who was already married.

If she wasn't married, the rapist was supposed to marry her.

If a slave was raped by her owner, that wasn't a crime. Even Abraham slept with his wife's slave after his wife encouraged him to. Since the slave was not given the option of saying "No," that is rape.

Lot offered to allow a crowd of thugs to rape his virgin daughters instead of his angelic visitors. He is considered a paragon of virtue for doing so.

The Bible also repeatedly refers to capturing virgin women in the spoils of war. Anyone who would claim that they were not raped is completely ignorant about ancient warfare.

The Bible is not a good source of morality. The world would be vastly better off if people would stop trying to use it as one.

Yes, people were rapped in the bible. Read Genesis and Exodus. Like before God made the 10 commandments. People in the bible were doing everything we are doing now. Being Gay, killing, prostitutes, stealing, insets, getting drunk. Nothing is new today, (just the people)

But rape is not actually a commandment. But if you rape someone then you are fornicating. And tho shalt not fornicate is a commandment. Because fornicating is having sex without being married. Rape is having sex with someone without marriage. The bible also tells up to stay away from all sexual sin. 1 Thessalonians 4:3.

Raping also falls into the stealing category. You are taking something from someone without there consent. That's a commandment.

Also; you could beat the snot out of a person but as long as, "Thou shalt not kill" was adhered to - you were let off the "hook". My point being that the Old Testament is super ceded by the New Testament and the law therefore, is NOW rendered as SPIRITUAL in application. In other words, the spirit of the law deals with the mind and attitude of an individual, which the 10 Commandments fall terribly short.
In the New Testament [Covenant] "If a man looks on a woman to lust after her, he has sinned in his heart". This is the number 1 sin of males (Christian or not) !!!

The Ten Commandments are good rules to live by (though non-Christians/Jews can toss out the first five), but they are by no means the ONLY rules you should follow.

Really, The Golden Rule is all you need for 95% of your moral/ethical dilemmas. For the rest, just follow your heart.

There are OT stories of rapes occurring. Rape is actually a crime of violence rather than the expression of sexual desire. As an Assault it would actually fall under the 5th Commandment of Thou Shall Not Kill. A thorough study of the Commandments and this makes sense. If you just read the surface you may not quite get it.

Yes, but the ancient Hebrews regarded it as a type of property crime against the male realtives rather than a crime on the person of the woman.

Which is one of the reasons I find a lot of Old Testament morality repugnant.

You know the bible doesn't say anything about looking at Kiddy Porn, pedophiles participating in dirty chat rooms to fish for kids, driving drunk, exposing ones self to children, doing drugs, blowing your head off with a gun, spitting on the walk, dog fighting, cheating on your taxes, running a stop sign, driving to fast, or selling drugs either!

Use your head!

It's called obeying the LAW!

Actually rape is forbidden except to women captured in battles.

deuteronomy 22: 28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. [c] He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.

Two thumbs down, so here are the bible verses.

I am always impressed by how intelligent Xtians are.
If it was not the exact ten commandments on stone it is close enough.
Three thumbs down. OK. Time for me to play a bit.
