"I already served" is hardly a valid reason not to go fight in a war one claims to support. Why is it that when I earned my honorable discharge I didn't receive any notice saying "you served once, your obligation to your country has been fullfilled, you never have to serve again"?

And "too old" is a valid excuse? Only if you're older than the 68 year old man that managed to come out of retirement and serve in iraq. If you're younger than that, why can't you serve?

" I already have a career! And it's not something I'm going to give up to join the military."

So, it's okay for OTHER people to give up THEIR careers to FIGHT for what you claim to believe in, it's just not okay for you?

Why would I be in line behind you to go fight in a war that I don't support?

I served 10 years and thought I was too old until I heard about a guy that was 47? and went through air assault school to serve in Iraq. Damn, that is some fine motivation and drive he must have.

I'm too old is not an excuse. In my case it's a reason. The only Medical Department officers who can request reinstatement on active duty from the Retired List after age 60, are Medical Corps officers (doctors). I'm not a doctor. But, I did volunteer to come back on active duty and submitted that request on September 14, 2001. But, that law barred my return.
I'm at the same weight as when I first enlisted 50 years ago. I have 8 years of experience with Fleet Marine Forces, including a year in a combat zone. So, I'm willing to go. Just get the Congress to change the law and I'll saddle up! And it's O.K. for you to "get on my six" because I expect you to be in the line right behind me.

Yes, "already served" and "too old" are excuses -- in the sense that they excuse such service because they provide valid reasons for not offering further service.

Not everyone is physically or psychologically capable of serving in active duty military -- that doesn't make their opinions any less valid.

I already have a career! And it's not something I'm going to give up to join the military. For the one millionth time: YOU CAN SUPPORT MILITARY ACTION WITHOUT CHOOSING THE MILITARY FOR YOUR CAREER. It's called a free country.

Most of them cannot make it through our "dumbed down" education system.
You are asking them to serve our country???
Hell they cannot even keep their pants up.

Go Figure.
