Make sure the front suspension has been maintained, they cost a lot to refurbish. Check on the history of the brakes, all modern trucks an SUV's need rotors and pads more frequently due to their size and weight.
Check under the inner doors for rust where the outer door skin is mated to the inner door shell.
Make sure the maintenance is up to date and if all is well they are not a bad vehicle for the right price.

The 98 Expedition is a very reliable vehicle, providing it has had decent maintenance and hasn't been beaten like a red headed step child it should make it to 200,000 miles with very little repair work. The biggest issue we see on them are coil failures, they tend to get snow blown on the engine which melts and runs in the spark plug pockets causing coil failure.
