If the notary knows you personally, you won't need ID. Otherwise, will need official photo ID, since the purpose it to prove it's you. A driver's licence or passport would be sufficient. Don't need a birth certificate - and it wouldn't be accepted, since that just proves that you are in possession of that piece of paper, not that it's you. Social security number isn't needed, nor is it proof of identity.

A government-issued photo ID is normally required unless the Notary personally knows you. Drivers license, Non-Driver ID, Passport, Military ID, etc. will all suffice.

Normally they won't accept a school ID since those are so frequently faked. Birth certificates and SS cards don't prove who you are by themselves.

HELLO!!! i believe that the correct answer is state issued id. or anything else that proves your identity such as birth certificates, social security number, passport, etc. IF none of the above apply to you or are out of your reach, i believe two witnesses with their identification may be able to back your identity up. Good Luck!!!

It would depend on the laws of the state where you're having the paper notarized, since each state's law are different. Call the notary's office you plan on going and ask what your state requires.
