americans are very shallow
their culture is largely religious
however the culture embraces
money
greed
self worship
gluttony as you say
It is quite ironic that in such a strongly religious society it is a society that acts totally against what it professes to be about.
That is where agenda fits in. The bible is made to seem that bigotry, greed, lust, avarice etc are good things.
Ok this is largely a generalized sweeping set of statements. However I stand by them and proclaim there is much truth in them.

Dear Gwens18a,
The truth of the matter is that Christians and non-Christians come in all sorts of sizes and shapes.
It's not fair to pick one atheist and one Christian and have them represent the whole body of believers and non-believers. Also you are making a direct correlation between being fat and being gluttonous. Not all people are fat because they are gluttonous. There are people who are genetically pre-disposed and there are some who it is a very serious medical condition.
When people say that America is a Christian nation- it is just simply saying that America more than any other nation claims faith in God. There are many who claim to believe in God but don't live that out. They also say 80% of Americans believe in God- but this obviously isn't reflected in our society's values- ie: schools teach evolution and not creation, and most schools do not allow prayer. In short, i'm saying while some people may label America a "Christian nation" -- that is clearly not the reality.
That being said- absolutley there are some Christians who are overweight and gluttonous. And if your point is that why are they disobeying God-- i would only hope that they would be aware that they are disobeying God and relying on God to change.
Your statement that the more religous the American is, the fatter they are is absolutely unsubstantial. Is Billy Graham a very fat American?
You're statements are not based on any solid evidence and more than that- you've broken the first rule of a researcher- correlation does not imply causality. You have not shown that there is any relationship between being Christian/religious and being fat- and even if there was one from well documented research- there are a lot of other factors that can contribute to a person being overweight and its silly to attribute that solely or primarily upon one's religious beliefs.
Kindly,
Nickster

It's not necessarily the amount one eats, but rather what one eats. American's are notorious for eating fast food which is very unhealthy and fattening. Instead of worrying what goes in someones mouth, I'm more concerned what comes out.

While you're generalising a LOT, I do wonder why Christians aren't as bothered by the amount of overweight people there are in the US as they are by the number of gay/bisexual people.

I see you point - but look at all the other sins committed by US residents.
It's a wonder God isn't raining lightning bolts down on them all the time, as punishment........On second thoughts that would even be exhausting for someone like Him!

Do you have such little self esteem that you sit around and think of these things?
Americans are over weight because we are over worked and always on the go. Since we have little time, most people end up getting something to go and it is not usually the healthiest choice. Not only that, but we live in a country of excess. My boyfriends family is Mormon and are all skinny. There goes your theory...
It is this type of thinking that makes atheists look bad.

Your examples are ludicrous and inaccurate. Body mass has no relationship to faith or lack of it.
