At work I am constaly being called someone elses name. I work in a place that over 80 employees but only three of us are African-American. What is fustrating about this situation is that I am constantly being called the other black womens names. We all are differnet people, and do not look alike nor do or names sound alike but we are constaly mistaken for one another. I do not know how the other women feel but this is a real problem for me (after trying to let it go before). Many of my co-workers will try to correct themselves as to why the called me so and so, only to stick their foot in their mouths. It is important to get the name right b/c their is legal documentation involved and we have been mixed up so much it has created a real problem that falls back on the (3) of us to fix it. Not to mention one of the ladies is not well liked and I frequently get in to trouble on her behalf alot. How can I address this problem and get white co workers to get the names right?

i would correct them immediately and not let them get away so easily with their scapegoat. If all else fails make yourself a name tag, that way they will definately figure it out themselves. If they continue to still confuse you, i would begin to start thinking that maybe they are blatantly and subliminally trying to make racist statements to you; at that point it is time to call the EOE.

80 employees would be too many names for me to remember . I remember faces , but never names .

Where I worked , they used name tags .

But still , there was another lady in another department that must have looked like me because I was often asked how I got the transfer out to the one I was in .
FYI - I'm caucasian , mix ups have no race limits .

Get nice tags and nameplates for your desks ,
It will mitigate some of the name errors ,
& Save a lot of headaches .

Correct them, and say "I'm (your name here), not (so-n-so's name here)". And if that doesn't work, I would start mixing their names up, but that seems kind of childish... I'm obvi. only 21 lol because I'm sure I would do that. That's a crappy situation to be in. I'm sorry people are so ignorant. You could go to your HR/EEO dept within your company and make a formal complaint.
