Nah, Satan's just a party animal.
He got that bad rep for a string of automobile accidents he had in the late 70's and a fight he got into at CBGBs over a cover charge. What can he say? He loves his beer and strippers.
Heard he wasn't all that bad until he started hangin' around Jim Morrison..I guess the Lizard King made an impression.

If God is omnipotent...
and if God created Satan knowing he would rebel...
and if God proceeded to create Hell...
and if God allowed Satan to persecute humans...
I would say yes, Satan is fulfilling the role of "bad guy" that was put into place by his creator. He could do nothing else, because God knew beforehand what would take place. Not to mention, I don't recall the Bible ever saying that angels had free will.

That was the origin of the Satan character. He was the adversary of man, not of god. He was actually working for god. That's why in Job, when god called a meeting of all the angels, the adversary attended.
